UTA fall 2011

U.S.A. Texas

anyone else apply to UTA nursing school for fall 2011. I'm waiting for an admission decision.

Hey guys!

Thanks so much! I am sooo excited... and a little nervous (which i'm sure will become more profound throughout the summer)!

As far as my GPA and such goes, I'm not quite sure... I don't know which classes they used or honestly, how it is calculated... I know that as far as sciences go, including Pharm and Patho, I only had one B in chem (from my first year of college way back in 1997). All of my other classes were A's for the most part, a couple of B's here and there. My overall GPA on the unofficial transcript on mymav is 3.83. I do have a degree, but I can't remember if they take that into consideration or not. My advisor sent me the list of things they take into account when they are ranking applicants. You guys might want to email your advisors for that info. I was feeling pretty discouraged, but was so happy to receive the call yesterday. In my opinion, based on conversations with my advisor and by reading these message boards, if you want the AP program, the best thing to do is to get a job at a hospital. If you want traditional, try to get all A's. My advisor suggested that in the not so near future it will be almost impossible to get into the AP program without already having been partnered. I suppose I got lucky, or someone was looking out for me! Personally, i think it was a "test" to see if I was willing to "humble" myself enough to be a CNA. I have to admit, at first, I didn't want to go that route, but just before I got the call from UTA, I was actually very excited about the CNA class. When I went to get my refund check from withdrawing today, I was a little bummed that I wasn't there learning. :) But, I know that in September, I will be in it full-fledged, so I can't wait!

Best of luck to everyone. Maybe we'll meet in person someday!

Suzanne

PS... I can't send private messages yet - it says you have to post 15 times before you can send a message. So, I'm not ignoring anyone, just can't reply privately! :)

Way to go, girl! That's awesome :) Thanks for the info and I wish you the best.

Congrats, txsuzy! You will do well! :D

Suzanne,

Thanks soo much for that information! You will do just fine!!!!Do you know whats the cheapest route to get your CNA??? I did not think of that but, that sounds like something I should pursue in the meantime, I will continue to wait patiently!!!!!!!

@dyella - I just did a whole lot of googling. I ended up picking Elite Nurses Aide Academy, because they had the best schedule options for me. The class was $895 including CPR, scrubs, steth and books. I already had my CPR, so I got a $50 discount. There's another program at CTK (I think that's the name), in Irving that's a little cheaper. I also checked the partner hospital job postings religiously and applied for quite a few positions. I got three phone interviews, one in person at UT Sw (not a partner, but I had applied anyway), but no offers... For me, I have two young children, so my schedule wasn't ideal to find a job. Good luck to you and I hope you get a phone call soon! The waiting is torturous! :)

To traditional Fall 2011,

Does anyone know when we'll hear any more info about what we need to buy or do before August?

Thanks! Congrats!!

I heard from a someone with friends in the nursing school that they will send us orientation packet in the mail sometime this summer. I also emailed Edria Fleming on May 31st to ask when to be on the lookout for orientation info posted blackboard; she said info would be posted the following week (which it wasn't....) Suppose we just have to wait it out a bit.

Hi TXSuzy, I too got the call moving me from waitlist to accepted. I'm really looking forward to it. Would any of you guys offer advice on the best hospitals to do clinicals? I will be driving up from Austin every time and lived in Fort Worth years ago, so I am leaning in that direction. I really need to get clinicals toward the end of the week, Thurs/Fri otherwise I will have to bring on board the entire extended family. I like surgery, ICU and would like good exposure to pediatrics. Any suggestions helpful. Thanks!

Can i apply to UTA as a transfer student if I already have a BS degree? Do you know how long the program would take?

Sure can. I have a BS degree and I just started UTA's BSN accelerated Program (Academic Partnership program). It's only 15 months. Good Luck

@jdvens ok! but do you know if I can also consider/do the regular program as well? (just the upper division portion-so technically like 4-5 semesters) Not sure if i am up to speeding through 15month of BSN, but glad to know that is an option. btw, how are you liking it so far (accel bsn)? I noticed that the accelerated bsn was mainly online. Do you have to find your clinicals? I'd rather have a campus based program. Thanks

oh, and what did you think of the HESI? Was it easy? What was the financial aid package like as a second degree student?

anybody else on waiting list?
