U.S.A. Texas

So I think we are well into the application period so, surely it is time to start up this board. I can not wait until we hear back in May. Trying to keep very busy while waiting. Good luck to everyone applying!! Hopefully we can keep each other company here and celebrate our successes!!

Also, 3rd hep B shot is 6 months after the first, correct? That's what I have seen online, but the MA at my dr office did not seem to be too well in the know about it..

Yep, that is correct. FYI- If you have insurance you can't get shots at the county anymore. But, I went to another clinic, (if you can't find somewhere else to get your shots, feel free to message me and I will tell you the name of the place I went) and all I had to pay was my $25 co-pay and nothing else, and I got 2 shots. So it was actually cheaper for me to go there than to the county and pay $20 per shot.

You can go to american heart association website and you can search for classes in your area. I was going to bring all my forms with me to orientation.

Where is a good place to take CPR off campus? Any certain hospital recommended? I was going to call to reg for one of the TNSA ones, but then noticed on the check off sheet it said sign ups are at orientation..makes me nervous possibly not getting a seat in one. Is that correct we can't sign up til the 3rd?

I thought about faxing everything but I think I will just make a file for orientation and bring it all...I think it is liable to get lost otherwise.. IDK?

send everything in once you get it, they get A LOT of people turning stuff in at orientation and it gets really crazy, so things might get misplaced.

and there is plenty of room for the TNSA CPR class, dont even worry about it, i called the nursing dept and made an appointment through them. A lot of students that already work int he healthcare field will already have theirs done anyway, and if you take it throught TNSA it lasts for the entire 2 years you are in the program.

Thanks txhusker, I guess I will go ahead and turn in stuff as I get it. I just assumed they wanted stuff at orientation

orientation gets crazy when it gets to the end, people wanting to turn everything in, asking about getting schedules changed, all sorts of madness. Its better to send papers in as you get them, that way your file is being built up, so by the time orientation comes, it will probably be complete. One less thing to worry about.

On the AHA website it says...

"Are you a healthcare professional?

Courses that meet your needs could include BLS for Healthcare Providers, ACLS, PALS or one of our many other advanced emergency cardiovascular care courses."

Does anyone know which class we are supposed to take?

its BLS.

just a warning though, i WAS going to take a class through the AHA, and was about to register, but noticed the class was held at someones house...? so i would call and see where the class is going to be first lol. If you take it through TNSA, its super easy, the instructors are really nice and its on campus.

Thanks txhusker! Oh wow... that would be really weird lol. Thanks for the warning!!

oh! and sometimes, they charge more. I know some hospitals charge 60-70$, some places might be cheaper.

Before I did mine, I called to make an appt and it was at someone's house. No thanks!

Idk, but that could be scary.

was it in keller by any chance..?? LOL yeah, like i said, just double check it. Some places will have it at their local church and stuff, but no, no houses for me. You guys can also check with other TCC campuses, I know the NW campus has CPR classes, its not all the time, but it was like $15 for a year cert.

Kate- I just called the number they gave us to "call and register for CPR" and she told me that it was a mistake and we do have to wait until Aug 3rd to register at orientation.
