I'm looking into the Dallas/Ft Worth area. What can a new nurse expect to make? Are their unions? What are some good hospitals to look into and how are nurse/pt ratios?

How are taxes in TX? Property, income, and sales? What about the job market (for my hubby-not me) He'd be looking into something construction/remodeling.
Sales taxes are running in the neighborhood of 8.25% in the county where I reside. There's no income tax in Texas. The property taxes can be pricey, depending on the tax rate of the county where you live. For example, my 1,800 square foot house was purchased for $104,000 and has a tax value of $111,000. My property taxes for this year are a few dollars shy of $2,700.

I was only paying $1,900 yearly in property tax when I lived in California.

FYI - You can Homestead your house(1 house per Texas Resident) and get about 20K off tax value when they calculate tax in Texas.

You can also object to how much money they county appraisal district values your house.

They usually send out estimated taxes and appraisal every October and you have a couple of month to fight it.

Myself, I have my house about $30,000 less than what the Dallas County appraisal district tried to appraise my house.

Very easy to do.
