Allison,

will your instructor give you at least a week to finalize your careplan. Last semester my clinical instructor wanted us to have everything completed, meds, pathos and careplan the day of clinical. That was tough, I sat there sometimes till very late or should I say early in the morning. Others in my class had a week to finish theirs.

This semester my clinical instructor wants us to finish meds and patho ( the top part) and only give two diagnoses, but not write the whole careplan for those two, for the clinical day. We have a week to finish this. This seems doable.

Do you have to have everything done on the day of your clinical?????:uhoh3:

I've never had a week to finish my careplans. This instructor expects pathos on every single thing your patient has ever had and how they all relate to each other, all the meds (of course), at least 3 nursing diagnoses with full care plan written out for each and assessment stuff (the usual). We have to have it all completed before we get on the floor that morning and she takes them and grades them that day. It's very stressing and we are moving up to 3 patients in 2 weeks. Yesterday it took me about 6 hours to do 2 patients so I'm guessing about 9 for 3.....:uhoh3: Yeah- most of my other friends get a week but I've never had that throughout any of my semesters....This is a great instructor but she expects ALOT out of us...most of us in the group don't even go to sleep which I think is totally unsafe! I try to get at least 6 hours which I think is pretty good....

yeah , that is kind of crazy, I didn't get much sleep last semester when I had 2 patients either. I wish those instructors would think about how much paperwork this is. Especially if you have lecture the day before your clinicals or something like that. :(

It must take me about the same time to finish all the paperwork for clinicals. Now, we have to do 3-4 nursing diagnoses on each pt, 1 or 2 patho and the rest of the weekly careplan. My instructor monitors our careplans and if we do it well then later we won't need to do the nursing diagnoses part. Also, she said that by the time we have 4 pt we only do patho and meds sheets. I can't wait. ;) And I hope that every 3. semester clinical group has less and less paperwork towards the end of this semester.
