The purpose of this thread is to share information about El Centro Spring 2009 admission process, preparation for the first semester.

Any one knows the lowest gpa admit for Spring 2008 and Fall 2008. Also, do hospitals require social security number, when?

I do not know the answer to that, but I am making an assumption here

that the social security number would be needed and verified when you

do your background check.

I know for sure that for the EC/NL program you need to have a social security no. Am not sure if it is for the sake of the hosp or sch but u need one!!

which college is better, El Centro or Northlake? Please post your selection and why?

I have selected El Centro first choice because the RN program is managed by El Centro and Dart is free.

i would have loved to go to nl just coz i go there now and i know some students already in the program who like it but i just moved to north dallas and ec is really just a better option. the commute to irving right now is killing me and i wouldnt be able to do it for two more years!! ec is my first choice, i hope i get in!!:yeah:

Yes you do need a SSN for your background check and to apply to the hospital for clinicals. Also I have been to EC and now go to NL. They both are good schools with free dart systems but the highschoolers at EC drove me crazy, and the 1st semester teachers have some reputations. I love NL so far. Lecture teacher is funny and engaging, CI is nothing but caring and helpful. Be careful who you choose for your CI. It can make or break you

I also attend North Lake, and love it! You get lots of one-on-one attention, parking is easy (not to mention free), and there's generally just a more relaxed atmosphere here as compared to El Centro. I'm currently in my third semester and can tell you that both the lecture and clinical instructors here are excellent!

Hi and good luck to each of you. I graduated from the El Centro program this past May.

I went to NLC, by choice, because 1) it's a nicer campus, 2) it's NOT in downtown Dallas, 3) there aren't homeless people asking for money. grrrrrr

(Also because I had always attended NLC because I grew up in Irving.)

It doesn't matter which campus you get put in. You are still going to graduate with the rest of the El Centro graduates (if you finish in May). If you finish in December, you'll get a pinning ceremony with the El Centro nursing students bunch.

The program is the same at both...meaning they teach the same stuff. One isn't better than the other.

You are considered an ECC student once you are accepted into the program, even if you go to NLC. Therefore, you can go to ECC to get a free Dart pass as well.

SS#....not sure, but some of the hospitals REQUIRE you passport to be CURRENT, or you WILL NOT get to do your clinical there. (Such as the VA.) Heed this warning all the way through because there are seniors every semester that do not get to do clinical their 4th semester, and must go back the next semester for clinical only.

I doubt a SS# is required, but some sort of method to do your background check would be. I doubt every ECC/NLC nursing student is a US citizen.

Our semester, the GPA was 3.77, and the one before 4.0. (I got denied with a 3.77, and had to retake a class and apply with a 4.0...Of course, then 3.77 was accepted...lol) I do believe the required GPA has gone WAYYYYYYYYYY down!

It is a living HADES, but always remember, it is doable. ....That keeps you going to know that there are other people who successfully finished the program.

Thanks for response in great detail. One follow up question on the above quote, so you never had to show your social security card and give your number to anyone at any point? Also, which hospital you had your clinicals at? I really appreciate your reponses.
