Collin College Spring 2013 applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I recently applied to the nursing program for Spring 2013 but have not been a student at Collin College. I have heard numerous things about how you get accepted, the importance of the PSB score, whether or not you have a degree, etc. Anybody out there in the same boat as me? Wondering what's true and what isn't? I was also told we should get letters in the mail some time around September 11 either being accepted or rejected. True?

Any knowledge on this would be great!

...that they "would be" mailed... Darn auto correct!!

Ok.. well good to know, so I can watch for the mail man around the 15th! Eeeek!!

I emailed one of the advisors at Collin College regarding expected date to receive letters and she responded saying it should be by mid September. Not too much longer!

If Spring is easier to get into, then I suppose I got lucky applying when I did! I was attending TWU and applied there and didn't get in. Over 1000 applicants each application period. Crazy! I got accepted into NCTC for Fall 2012 but gave up my spot when I kept hearing horrible things about their program. I also got into Baylor University, but it's so "over the top" expensive! ($80,000) I haven't given up that spot yet, but I will if I get into Collin College for sure!

I am a 4th semester nursing student at NCTC and the program is not horrible, it is actually pretty great. I don't know who have said it is horrible, but usually the students that complain about the program are the ones who want to argue with the teachers, are not doing that great and are not seeking help with all the resources that are available to us, and go against the rules of the program(any program has a couple). All the teachers I have had are great and will work with you with any problems you may have. Believe me they want you to succeed at this program. Last semester NCLEX pass rate was 100%. Now there have been director changes recently with in the last year that occured so the program has changed and when a program changes it goes through the hiccups but it does not affect the outcome of a students potential in the program. They recognize things when it is not benefiting the students and make changes accordingly. Also NCTC is changing their plan for Spring 2013 to include bridging with I think it is TWU and/or UTA in getting the bachelors. Most hospitals now will not hire an ADN unless they are in a bridge program for the bachelors or already graduated liscensed and obtaining their bachelors degree. I work for a hospital that is one of them. Just wanted to let you know, you should have not given up on a spot just because rumors that are told. Unless you know these people personally and when they went thru the program would make a difference, but it is always your choice.

Lucky16, thanks for your input! I did know a girl that moved to TWU that had been in the NCTC nursing program, but regardless, I just felt Collin College was a better fit for me. It's a lot closer, less expensive, and was awarded the Nursing Excellence Award. I'm sure if I had gone to NCTC I would have been just fine though.

Everybody that's waiting for their acceptance letter for Spring 2013? I am dreaming about getting my acceptance letter, checking the mail with anxiety daily, and nonstop talking about it with my family. Please tell me that I am not alone!!

Haha... I am trying not to think about it... and I haven't started checking the mail yet! I'm sure around Sept. 12th I will become very anxious and begin watching for the mailman! As far as discussing it with my family, I'm pretty sure I've beat the subject to death with my husband and parents! So no you are not alone, just try and suppress the anxiety a little longer we are only about two weeks out from getting a letter! Eeeeeek!

Thanks for the reassurance that I'm not alone in my worrying:) Only a couple of weeks.. can't be that bad...

You will make yourself crazy checking already for the letters! They NEVER go out early and frequently go out a week late.

I know not.done.yet! I just want to know either way, like everybody else out there:)

So far I have not stressed about the acceptance letter. I almost have myself convinced I won't get in because I have 14 overall points. I have a 4.0 in all my prereqs (4.0 at Collin overall and 3.7 at all colleges combined - no degree though) but only made 5 on the PSB. Reading and math have always been my best subjects in school but they were my lowest points on the PSB. I panicked when they said 15 minutes for the reading and I completely lost my concentration. Hopefully, it will not mess up my chances too much.

How often are we allowed to take the PSB? If I do not get in the Spring 2013 program I will reapply in the fall. I am taking Micro now so by the end of this semester I will have 15 points. Should I retake the PSB to bring the reading part up or will that even matter with 15 points?

Hello raviendha! This is my first time applying to Collin College, but what I've heard it 15 points you have a decent shot at getting in. My personal opinion for you would be to wait and see what happens this time around, but if you don't get in this time retake the PSB. I just skimmed the reading then glanced at the questions. I've taken four different nursing entrance exams and found that for me that is the best strategy! Good luck to you!
