Collin College ADN Spring 2015

U.S.A. Texas

Hello everyone! I didn't see a thread for Collin College Spring 2015 (July 31 deadline), so I thought I'd start one, especially since there seems to be a whole new point system that they will be implementing for the first time. I plan on trying to apply (also applying here in Sugar Land to WCJC and in Alvin at ACC).

I have a previous degree from Arizona for Computer Science (really doesn't do me much good! lol) but after 9yrs working in IT, I finally admitted that it wasn't fulfilling -took the leap of faith and decided to go back to school to become a nurse. My dream is to one day soon work in home hospice care.

I went to the Collin College nursing info session about a month ago (March 2014) and am taking the PSB exam on Mon May 5. I am not entirely sure how the new point system compares to the old one, but it seems like there are a lot more points involved and I wonder what this means in terms of a the new "minimum" number of points. I know before 16pts was great, 15pts was good and 14pts was iffy to get in. With the new point system, I am aiming for 29 of the 34 max points -we'll see! Does anyone know how that might stack up?

Anyone else trying to apply for Spring 2015?

Have you heard anything about immunizations? One adviser told me to have them all done before applying but another told me just have them started and on the website it said after you get accepted. Just wondering if you've heard anything thanks a lot!

Hep A and Hep B need to be started right about now, since they take 5-6 months to complete the series of shots for immunization. But all the others (MMR, Tdap, Varicella, TB Tine/CXR & Flu) just need to be completed before clinicals start in Jan 2015 for the program. You just need to provide documentation that you've at least started the Hep A/B series. Hope that helps!

I'm upset with the new point system because it gives up to 4 extra points for having taken Biol 1406, Psyc 2301, Psyc 2314, and the humanities course as honors courses (an A is 1 point and a B is 1/2 point). They do this after I've taken three of the courses and am now signed up for the fourth with no honors course offered for it in the summer. Losing those four points will probably keep me out of Collin's nursing school, so I'm totally frustrated. I've got an A in everything except a B in Biol 2401 (where half the class failed), but I guess I'm not good enough for Collin.

Same here, I was shocked by the new point system they put up the website. I took Biol 1406 (Summer 2 of 2013), Psyc 2301 (Spring 2014) and will be taking psyc 2314 on Summer II, but none of these are honors classes. I only got a B on AP2 (majority did too), which gives me a 9 on both pre-req GPA and overall GPA requirements. That being said, I'm applying to Spring 2015 with around 26-28 points :( There is no way I'm going to retake biol and psych honors just to get more points. So I'm just being hopeful about it since there really is nothing I can do. I just graduated high school last year 2013 thus this is my first time applying, we'll see. There is always next time if I don't get in :)

It seems that the Spring 2015 class will be the first one to go through the new 34-point admissions system. I guess we won't really know what the point cut-off is until after the Spring 2015 class is admitted and puts something online. Given how the 16-point system worked, I'm expecting to see the cut-off at around 30, 31, maybe 32. Remember also that the Fall of 2015 class will be the first class to use the new health science center at the Central Park campus. I would think that the size of the class admitted would rise, but I don't know. It's my understanding that the limiting factor with nursing schools is being able to hire qualified nursing professors with MSNs and significant experience. I'm still very disappointed with the new point system and expect that I will not be admitted even if I have all A's and one B in A&P1 (and no honors classes). I'm already making plans to apply to El Centro and Grayson, although either will be a huge commute for me. Life's not fair, I guess. If anyone hears anything about the new point system cut-off or about the number to be admitted when the new health science center at CP opens, please post here and let us know.

Hi all, I am looking to apply for fall 2015, so am anxious to hear how you'll do with regards to points and getting admitted. Hate not knowing how many points are needed! Since this is brand new, I doubt many applicants will have honors courses. I don't think they even offer any honors courses at collin???? So I am thinking that most applications will start at 30, not above. Please, please I hope. Please post when you find out if you got in and what your points were. Max points I can get at this point is 28, if I get an A in my next 3 prerequisites, so would love to know if I should stop killing myself over these classes and go spend some time with my babies! Hate not knowing what the goal is!

Ok so I just double checked. I am registered at Collin to take microbiology and A&P 2. They have no honors courses for either of these classes at any of their campuses......

It is frustrating not knowing! The only classes you can get extra points for in Honors are BIOL 1406, PSYC 2301/2314 & humanities. No extra points for honors A&P/Micro. The highest I can get will be 29 pts. Won't find out until mid-Oct if I get in, but I will post updates on how many points I applied with. Deadline coming up for Spring 2015! July 31

Hi Everyone!

Our applicant pool will not have ANY honors points.. so with that being said, just remove the 4 from the 34 possible points. This will not be an issue for at least a year.

Also... If you don't already know PSB results are in for the ones that took the test on the 18th!

That is WONDERFUL news, but did someone in the nursing dept tell you this?
