Austin Community College Fall 2012 hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Anyone out there who would like to commiserate about waiting anxiously to be accepted to the ACC ADN program in the fall 2012 semester?

Have you received your petition for Nursing skills yet? Pre-reqs and co-reqs completed?

Hope to hear from some of you (or all) soon!

St. David's provides tuition reimbursement, which is available to employees after six months. I believe it maxes out at $3000 per year.

Seton requires ADNs to get their BSN within five years of hire. St. David's does not currently have any requirement about it.

Most of the nurses I know are doing UTA, which is my plan. I took a break from school after finishing ACC, so I could recover and get used to being a new nurse. Now that I've got into a groove on the floor where I work, I'm feeling ready to tackle school again.

Thanks for the info! I would think it would be more doable to do St David's considering they're not even hiring ADN's right now at seton. I am friends with a lot of seton nurses and they're all saying the same thing in regards to hiring. If any one does get hired as an ADN there, right now, it's basically an act of God.

Sorry .... One more thought... Do you have to commit to a couple of years afterwards to do the tuition reimbursement for Saint David's?

You do have to continue working for the system for a few years, but I'm not sure how long. Since St. David's is part of HCA, I believe that as long as you're with an HCA facility, it counts. I know that if you go from St. David's to another HCA facility in another state, you keep your benefits going and everything -- it's basically like a transfer. That's a nice perk if you plan to move somewhere totally different in the future.

To be fair, Seton does hire ADNs through Versant, but it's dependent on a lot of factors. When I applied for Versant, the only facilities hiring ADNs were Seton Main and Seton Hays. The cohort they're doing now seems to be taking more ADNs. For their magnet status, they have to maintain a certain ratio of BSNs to ADNs. So there's no telling what your situation will be.

I think St. David's gets overlooked as a GN employer because they don't take applications in a big bulk like Versant does. It's a shame, because a lot of my graduating class from ACC got hired into the system. And many of us are doing very well! The St. David's system was my first choice and I've been very happy there. I really love where I am, but I can also see a LOT of options for growth and change in the future.

I know.. I'm all about questions lately so I hope y'all will be patient :). Can someone please explain to me what Versant is? I've heard the term but have never had it explained.

HELP! I'm a level 2 transfer starting hybrid on 1/14/13. I would love to find other ACC ADN Level 2 students to clue me in to a few things that are not easy to ask the administrators. Is there a facebook page for our group? If so, please direct me. Thank you.

Hi texaslvn12, I too have been accepted into Level 2 but Traditional, hybrid. I cannot private message you because I have not been on this site for very long. Do you know if there is a facebook group for ACC ADN students?

hi georgesand, I have looked for a FB group for class of 2014, but have been unable to find one. when did you graduate from ACC's LVN program?? Let me know if you would possibly like to meet up to refresh on the skills check off. I graduated from the program a year ago now and while I have done skills in my job, they were not quite in the form that we had to do check offs so it would be great to refresh. I plan on going up to ACC and/or CEC every day Jan 7- 11.

My class started a private facebook group once we all met each other at orientation. It is a great way to share ideas and reminders. In fact, my class still posts on it and we graduated almost a month ago. Now we are just venting about how long it is taking for the state to send us our permission letters to take our NCLEX.

Is anyone from Levels 2 - 4 going to be at the EVC skills labs any this week for mastery practice? I'd love to meet up with someone who can kind of let me know what to expect for ADN skills and just a practice partner in general.
