Austin Community College (ACC) - Fall 2010 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I'm a Fall 2010 applicant at ACC and thought it would be nice for all the Fall 2010 hopefuls to have our own thread to share exciting news, information, and support with each other.

I turned in my application last Friday (Dec. 18th) after taking the HESI exam. I feel good about my scores but I anticipate competition for the Fall spots is going to be quite fierce. After that large applicant pool for Spring I think we will see a lot of re-applicants applying with the 5 extra re-application points. Not sure what that will mean for the ranking scores but it will be interesting to see . . .

Good luck to all the Fall 2010 applicants!

Yay!!! Finally our own thread! It has been a long road to be able to say "I have submitted my application and am just waiting for acceptance"! Took my HESI Friday and submitted my app too! I am hoping for a spot in the online portion. It would be nice to have my skills lab be at the new Round Rock campus.

Hey, y'all! It's nice to have our own thread. Anyone else have the irrational hope that petitions for 1105 will be going out before the end of the year? ;)

I'm worried about how many of the Spring 2010 near-misses were in the 50-49 area when they first applied, and will be competing against us for spots. I keep telling myself if won't be the end of the world if I don't make it in -- it's another semester to work at my day job (I just got a promotion), save some more money, etc.

Something I noticed ... according to the fine folks who wrote the HESI, my personality type is "leader/creative." Which is sort of funny, because the "leader" description says I'm an extrovert and the "creative" description says I'm an introvert. Go figure!

Hey guys good luck to all, I'm an applicant for Fall 2010 but I'm applying to LVN while I finish up my RN prereq's. Is it okay if I post in here to?

Radiation - Could not agree more on the "long road" part. It feels so nice to be sitting here and know that all that is standing in between us and the program is a few months of waiting.

Purkinje - I was intrigued by the results of my personality test too. Like any test of that nature with generalized questions, I think it returned some results that were correct and some that were really inconsistent. I was labeled as both an introvert *and* an extrovert on mine as well!

TexasCNA - Absolutely - post away! :specs:

GeekGirl -- tests like that always make me think of the demonstrations where every student in a class gets a personalized horoscope based on their birth date, which they provided in advance. They all rave about how much the horoscope describes them, until they are told to switch papers with the person next to them -- and they all find out they received the exact same horoscope. :)

Purkinje - I am with ya in the fact that I am so hopeful they will release 1105 petitions before the end of the year. But since the campus is now officially closed that hope is dwindling. I do keep checking my email like a mad man. I probably won't relax until I have secured a spot in 1105. Then I am free to just stress about getting accepted into the program.

My personality test also said creative/leader and the learning style said I was "kinesthetic/global". I am really happy that I scored really high on the creative thinking since it was set up with NCLEX style questions.

I feel that I have read everything that can be read about the program. I was even a big nerd :specs: and already read through the Spring 2010 RN Handbook. My friend gave me her Fundamentals of Nursing book which we will use in 1105 and as a first semester student and I have already been looking through that as well. I don't know what to do with all this free time without something to study for! haha!

I got my letter this morning! I couldn't believe how fast they sent it!

So you got in to the LVN program??

Yes! haha I was in a hurry this morning before work, should have clarified. I know it's not as competitive as ADN but I'm excited since I'm finishing my RN pre-req's before LVN school starts so I'll be able to do the additional track right after I finish the LVN program. I'm also hoping to be able to get a job as an LVN during the ADN program to pay off some of the debts I will acrue during school.

So tomorrow should be the start of the petitions being sent out. I will surely have my fingers crossed all day ( if I can help it ). Good Luck All !!!

I'm right there with you, adamsrtb! I've been checking my ACC email over break thinking there might be the smallest possibility that they would send some petitions out before ACC officially opened again for the Spring.

Anyone have any guesses as to what the ranking points will look like when we hear in May about the accepted applicants?

I'm thinking it will stay at least at the 50 point level established for Spring 2010, with a good possibility that it could jump up significantly again. Those extra 5 points that re-applicants receive can really affect the prospects of first time applicants. Since there was such a large group applying for Spring, I have a feeling we will see a lot of people with the 5 extra points in the Fall 2010 group.

Fingers crossed for all of us - first timers (like me) and re-applicants too!!
