The deadline is the last Friday in March. From now on I going to open my options because I am now aware competition is pretty fierce for jobs; for some reason I just assumed a job was going to just appear and float down in my hand like a feather, how naive. BTW I graduate this upcoming May. I am starting to get pretty freaked out about jobs now. And, have you all heard anything about Scott & White? Seton was my first choice, but I'm just making more room.

I haven't, but I will be shadowing some of the units when I go home for break, so that is my next step. I guess I will find out after that.

Did you have to ask to shadow or did they want you to shadow?

Anyone else have an interview tips for the internship thhey Would like to share..

Strength/Weakness is always popular. So is conflict resolution. Many people have difficulty identifying a weakness that they feel comfortable sharing in an interview. I believe the best thing to do is respond in a way that spins your weakness into a positive. Ex: weakness=time management. Most hiring managers don't expect new grads to have the greatest time management right off the bat. You may have great time management at school/home, but your nursing time management needs some work. You can tell the hiring manager(s) that your are working on this skill and and you will work hard until your nursing time management is excellent (something like that).

I know someone who doesn't even have an interview for OR until next week and she said they were scheduling some for after Thanksgiving as well.

I currently work at this facility, if anyone has any questions specifically for the ED. Shoot me a PM, or reply on here.

This isin't a question about ED but how do you like working for Scott & White?

If I remember right you went to MSU right? I go there and we had a girl interview for ED yesterday at Scott & White! She said it seemed totally different from the ED in town.

All I can genuinely say is that it is completely different from a city ER. It is a level one, so you do see a lot of different complex cases, but if I could do over, I would have stayed in the metroplex.

Hey CA people, I'm one of you! I got a call today about interviewing over the phone for Med/Surg which of course I'm freaked out about but I'm glad I found this forum because it is definitely helping. I was really surprised to get a call from them but it sounds like they're very open to taking new grads from outside of TX. I saw that OKRANURSE is going to shadow, to those that are already at S & W is that a good sign? Before the lady told me it would be a telephone interview I told her I would be in TX in December and she said to let the interviewers know incase they want me to shadow.

Good luck and I hope those that have had interviews hear something soon.

Hi there. Why do you say that if you could do it over you would have stayed in the metroplex? Just curious...

Just the patient population and complexity of cases. Don't get me wrong, you will see great things at this facility, and you will be marketable if you ever try to go somewhere else, but the acuity is different in the city. The closer you get to the city, the level of the idignant population increases, thus your level of acuity rises. You'll see more DKAs, versus just your hyperkalemia patients. More GSWs, because of gangs and the increase in violence.., more hypertensive crisis versus just hypertension...etc. Things like that. I unfortunately didn't have the opportunity to receive a position in the city, so I went where I could get experience and I am grateful for that.

hey @kellyleigh! did you end up getting a position for the PICU??

@judithj29 I never heard anything back after the interview... even though they said they would call either way. So who knows.
