I was wondering if anyone could give me any infromation on the American Medical Institute in Houston. I know a little about the school (roughly 12,000$, it's accredited, ..) - Their website is down, but you can still access some of the pages (from 2009)..it still doesn't give you much information.

Well, I found out a little information today..

Next batch of lvn classes starts in October

and there is an information session April 2 at 1030 am.

^.^

Who are they accredited by? Will the credits transfer to a different college if you decide to go for your RN?

Have you considered LVN programs at HCC or Lonestar? They don't start as soon but they will be FAR less money.

I know nothing about the school itself, but I'd be a little wary of any program that allows its website to stay down for an extended period of time in this day and age.

They are accredited by the texas bon.

Yeah, I know it's a bit more than community college (i attended both lonestar & hcc, up until last fall - but I was going for a different degree, so it'd be another couple years before I could even start to apply for the program due to pre-reqs and such)

To be honest, I'm just ready to be in a lvn program already.. This school isn't a scam or anything..(I've since made contact with a student who went there and she says they are tough on the students and it's not easy (what nursing school is??), but she had no complaints whatsoever & was licensed within a month of graduating.)

i'm not fond of their site being down still, but a lady I talked to at the school said they just moved to a new campus in Houston, so they are working on moving servers and getting a better site up with more information. We'll see. :p

Oh! I doubt the credits will transfer (as is the case with most private nursing schools), but after a few years of working as a lvn, I do plan on taking classes here and there through HCC or Lonestar to work towards getting my RN. I definitely don't want to stop at lvn!

Hopefully this all starts to work out..

:)

I'm not sure who accredits LVN programs, but RN programs are accredited by the National League of Nursing or the CCNE (not sure what it stands for). Most schools are accredited but a few trade schools aren't. You can get a degree and sit the boards from non-accredited schools but would run into problems if you attempted to further your education (like go RN-BSN or BSN-MSN) because most schools require that you graduated from an accredited program. I'm wondering if something similar applies to LVN programs.

I would check with Lonestar/HCC/whoever and see if you can do their LVN-RN bridge programs after graduating from AMI before you enroll, if getting your RN is your ultimate goal.

Thank you i was really concern about AMI, because the website has been down since last year since i know of and that is not a good sign to me.I too was told that the session is 4/2/2010 at 10am ,its just i want to kow like what kind of test you have to take.I look on bon and you can read the report on the school and they have pictures of the school and the classrooms. I just have to wait til then
