Hi all,

This info is SO helpful! I'm not Pre-Specialty, I'll be Direct Entry, but I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm from Rhode Island and have never been anywhere close to Nashville and know NOTHING about the area. I would really prefer living within walking distance to campus. I keep seeing info about how PRICEY apartments are- what exactly is "pricey" in Nashville? In Providence, we can expect to pay anywhere from $900-$1400 for a decent (not super fancy) apartment. Anyone have hard figures for me? Also, I have a dog who I absolutely NEED to take with me- is the area dog friendly at all? Like any dog parks or parks in general nearby?

Any and all /Nashville info appreciated- SO overwhelmed!!

Also, CONGRATS to all- what a huge change our lives will take over the next few years :)

I've seen anything from 900 (tiny, studio apts) to well over $2000. Be aware that most apartment complexes charge a pet fee (not a deposit, a fee) of 350-500 per pet, and some of them also charge pet rent, that can go anywhere from 10-40 extra a month. The area right around ... uhm, I don't know if it's suuuper dog friendly, as it's more city-like, but if you walk a little further there's a bunch of parks and stuff like that. Some complexes also have "pet parks", where you can go and walk your dog.

If you decide to live a little further out you can get something a lot bigger for much less... just a thought.

Good luck and congrats ^_^

Good to know! Doesn't sound so terrible. I'm sort of thinking a few miles isn't really too bad- definitely bikeable. Does Nashville have any type of reliable public transit system? A few miles from campus certainly wouldn't kill me, but if I can find a place that allows me to avoid much of a drive (particularly highways/traffic!) I would be THRILLED. Space isn't much of a concern- it'll just be myself and the pooch. Less space means less to clean :)

What exactly is "a little further out" in the area- are we talking a few miles or a few towns over??

There's a commuter train that goes to ... Music City Star. Fare is discounted with your Vandy ID.

I know that some students take that when they don't have clinicals.

I think that even going 2-5 miles away will bring prices down substantially. I don't want to get too repetitive, but do give Apartment Selector a try... they made my life a lot easier. Padmapper is also helpful -- you type Vandy's address and it puts all the ads for apartments on a map.. that way you can compare prices, distances and all.

Hope this helps!

Hello!

You must be a dog lover like me. Although I am not going to be living in Nashville, I do know that Nashville is dog friendly! I just left the park with my golden retriever an chihuahua. Centennial park is basically right across the road from . As long as you have a leash, you can bring your dog anywhere! There are other parks in the Nashville area that allow dogs. Google parks in Nashville..then go to their website and check for the allowance of dogs! Good luck!

are there any ASN grad in this prespecialty group of 2011 at ?

@Kate22 I just PMed you---thanks for your help!

Oh my goodness... I'm from Rhode Island, so I'm honestly not entirely sure how I'm going to handle the lack of winter weather (snow, skiing!). How is Nashville treating you? Any fun info to share?

Everyone is sooo nice here, you'll love it! Fun fact, not sure if you guys are familiar with secadas (sp?) but they are everywhere... and they are loud.. and they tend to smash into my windshield when I'm driving...

I think they do get snow here... though probably very little. What specialty are you? :)
