Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Program Summer 2013

U.S.A. Tennessee

This thread is for those who are applying for the nurse residency program at Vanderbilt. I thought this would be a great place to keep up to date Inge selection process and make connections with new friends and colleagues. I am currently in my final year of nursing school at UCCS in Colorado. My goals are to be accepted for the adult critical care track an then return to school and become a CRNA. I know the job market is very competitive, especially for residency programs. I completed the online application 2 days ago and am waiting to hear back for more instructions. Good luck to everyone:)

thanks for sharing your experience! I am from a big city as well so am nervous that Nashville is going to be very strange for me. However Vanderbilt in general is the place I feel I align best in terms of missions and philosophies. Did you enjoy the actual surrounding location?

I just got a job offer today at a local childrens hospital, I dont know what to do!!!! I want Vanderbilt more then anything but am nervous to turn it down and then end up jobless lol.. any advice would be appreciated!

Skype interview in 45 minutes. I'm so excited/nervous. I hope I don't say anything stupid! :)

Let us know how it went!!!!!!! Good luck :)

Thanks snfairfax! I feel like I worried way too much, because the questions seemed quite straight forward. I would say all but one of my questions were situational based. It seems really difficult to infer how I did because they all seem like they would be smiling and friendly regardless! I can say that if anyone else has a Skype interview and you encounter technical issue don't fret! My video wouldn't come on when they called me, so they said "You know what, you try calling us". Fingers crossed, and best of luck to everyone else on their interviews! :)

Specializes in Pediatrics.
@erita105 Thanks for sharing! And congrats on getting through the interview!

I know it sounds strange, but one of the biggest things that is making me nervous is forgetting the names of the panel members after the interview. Do they give you a business card or a chance to write down their names during the interview so you can send a thank you afterwards? Or do you have to just remember...

Hey LauraJeanB,

No need to worry! After the interview you will be given a paper with the names of the individuals who interviewed you and the address to mail your thank you's to! :) wishing you best of luck!

Thansk @jacqui13! That makes me feel loads better lol.

Leaving tomorrow for Nashville, here goes nothing!

LauraJeanB! Let us know how it goes!! :) good luck!!!!

Had my interview yesterday, and hopefully it went really well! Lots of situational-based questions, so really focus on the event, action, and result/response, just like it says to in the informational powerpoint. Also, just as a heads up they write as you talk. But everyone was so friendly, and the medical center's campus is beautiful! Waiting until mid-April is really going to feel like an eternity..

Good luck to everyone else interviewing!

Congrats:) glad it went well! Thank you for the tips!

Has anyone applied for the pediatrics track yet?

did anyone else feel the interview was really hard:/ i didd :(

I felt that the questions were simple but that I made it hard on myself answering them. It's tough being in the interviewee position and I am sure they take that into consideration. Chin up, and good luck :)
