Starting to think TN dislikes new grads

U.S.A. Tennessee

who didn't go to school here! I live about 45 mins from Nashville, and have applied everywhere within an hour of me and have had zero luck. I went to school in NV, dunno if that's my problem? I have been told my resume is excellent, but as soon as they see new grad they scurry! I don't get it!

I know what you mean. I've been having the same issue, and even got as far as an actual interview before they say 'we already have too many new grads.' It's been very rough, and I've been looking everywhere too. I almost am afraid I'd have to leave my family here and go back to my original state...

I haven't even gotten an interview! I get nothing, no replies to anything. I have tried calling, get the machine and no one ever calls back. All I ever see is needs experience. Well how the heck am I supposed to get it?! I REALLY wish I had stayed in NV. I had a job offer there! But, I had already been away from my husband for a year and my kids for 6 months :( I'm just paranoid how much I will have to relearn when I do get a job, like IV starts, I haven't done an IV in months! Eek!

The job market stinks just about everywhere

I've noticed :( just feel like I screwed myself.

I'm in Memphis and all my friends that are new grads haven't had a problem getting a job…most have had jobs within a month of passing the NCLEX. BUT we also have 15 hospitals in the metro area

That's too far away :( My hubby works at Ft Campbell, so I'd like to stay close to there. I've applied to all the hospitals in Nashville, Clarksville, Hopkinsville and I think it's called Dickson? Have also applied to hospices, home health, nursing homes. Everyone wants 1 yr experience. Not sure how to get it if no one is willing to take the chance on me!

Paris is only 45 mins from Clarksville if not less

Thanks! Hadn't heard of those places!

According to Google maps, Clarksville to Memphis is almost exactly the same distance as I traveled for my first job.

Three years of leaving the family behind 3-5 days per week in order to launch my career.

I hope you can find something close by but recognize that many of us have faced a similar predicament and that you sometimes have to sacrifice a lot in order to get launched.

It was hard, but we managed... and it led to an excellent situation.

Oh, trust me, I already know about suffering. Like I said, I did the last year of nursing school without my family. If I had known the job market here was going to be so bad I would have stayed there and gotten some experience. I told my husband I may have to look further, and he doesn't like that idea, but oh well, gotta do what you gotta do.

Do they not have a hospital on base? Do you have your R.N. or B.S.N?
