    Hi Everyone. I guess I am a bit confused on the points "scoring". Will someone please explain the actual point system to me? I am applying for Spring 2011. I have A's in both A&PI/II and Microbiology. My overall GPA is 3.57. I haven't taken the NLN yet. I'm scheduled to do so September 18th. Can someone tell me what I should/need to make on the NLN to be secured a place for the Spring? Thanks in advance for your input!!

    They take the overall GPA, plus the NLN pre-admission exam score divided by 10, then add the QPA(an A is worth 16 points, a B is worth 12 points and a C is worth 8 points)from the science courses you have taken.

    For example if this was someone scores

    NLN score-12(120/10)
    A&P I-16
    A&P II-16
    Micro-16
    GPA-3.0

    12+16+16+16+3=63 is the total index score

    This was how the Dean of the nursing program explained it to me so I hope this helps.

    Hey there. Not in yet, but I took my NLN-PAX Aug 14th and I' awaiting my scores. I have A's in A&P I,II and Micro with a 4.0 GPA after 50hrs of classes. I'll post my NLN PAX scores when I get them and let you know if I receive an acceptance letter this fall.
    I got the NLN-PAX scores in the mail today. It only took 6 days total. I got a 150. From what I've read on here that's decent so I'm assuming I'll get in the program. My stats are as follows:

    A&PI = A (4x4) 16
    A&PII = A (4x4) 16
    Micro = A (4x4) 16
    GPA = 4.0 4
    NLN = 150/10 15

    Total 67

    That's great! Now all you need is the special application to apply for the program and your letter. Looks like you got in to me based on your scores. Keep us posted when you decide to apply & when they call you to tell you have been accepted!!

    Xander, Congrats on your score!! You have given me some new hope. I am taking the NLN September 18th. I have been studying like crazy to ensure a great score. What is your opinion of the NLN as far as easiness/difficulty? Is it true what they say about the extensive Physics questions? Have you done any volunteer work? Any advice you can give would be greatly accepted. Hopefully we will meet in the Spring.

    @nikkih901...

    I thought the NLN-PAX was not very diffifcult as a whole. There certainly were some vocab words that were super ridiculous and unknown to most I'd assume. There was quite a bit of physics in the test although I do believe most of that was part of the experimental questions added to the test for sampling. I think they're probably going to include physics in the test for later testers. I personally recieved the NLN study guide, the one they recommend from the NLN, several months ago. When I got it I took a few tests from the CD-ROM that's included with the book. I then took a few tests the night before the test. So, I didn't study at all really and got the 150. I'm certainly not the sharpest crayon in the box, so what I'm trying to convey is this test is really not all that difficult. You need to be more worried about time than anything. I took every second of time in taking this test.

    Here's a quick break down:

    1st section: This is your vocab and reading comprehension section of the test. None of this can be learned really. You either know it or you don't. The only way you could possibly help yourself here would be if you'd been studying SAT,ACT, LSAT, ect ... word banks. If not then you'll either know them or not. I took etymology in high school so I got a few of them from knowing their roots. This is the section that brought my score down. I was in the 92nd percentile here as opposed to the 99th that I had in the other two following sections.

    2nd section Math: Mostly fraction related problems. A few low level solve for "x" algebraic problems. This section was super easy in my opinion. Hint: some of the answers are WAY off. So, if you can get a general round about in your mind you'll see it's the only possible answer. This will help with time, as that's the only hard part about the test.

    3rd section Science: This section is mostly General Biology stuff. It also has a good bit of chart reading. It contains very little questions concerning A&P and Micro although there are some. I do honestly believe a person would have done better to take a general biology course and take this test then take the two AP's and Micro but ohh well lol. This part is super easy too. If you can't read a simple graph then maybe you're in trouble but the questions are very basic. I did however miss 3 and whats funny is I know exactly what 3 they were. I left feeling like an idiot about missing those.

    Let me follow this up by stating how important time management was for this test. They will call 5 minutes your last 5mins for each section. I would find myself rushing to make sure I answered everything. Try not to get yourself in that situation. Also, if you do run out of time, make sure you answer ALL the questions. Even if that means guessing. You have a 25% chance of getting it right verses leaving it blank and having a 0% chance.

    Hope that heap of babel helped in some way. lol

    Good Luck!

    Thanks for the information. I have to say again, this makes me feel so much better. I too have the same guide you used and I try to take at least 2 timed tests a day. I have the same feeling about the vocabulary...either you know it or you don't. I think my main problem is test anxiety. I am so obsessive when it comes to doing well and making the prefect grades that I manage to freak myself out.

    I do appreciate all of your input as you have no idea how much this helps. I know some people don't like to "jinx" themselves but I am totally opposite. I continue to tell myself that I will make it into the program. And you my friend have NOTHING to worry about with those grades and scores. Great job again!!!

    I doubt you will be hearing much more from the person you were communicating with. My friend is in SW nursing and she is so overwhelmed right now. I just applied and got a 148 on NLN with a 3.6 GPA. I applied to UoM as well because I already have a bachelors. She is making me nervous talking about her experience so far. But I know she will overcome. She along with the others feel like they are on their own.

    I am currently a student in the program. I started Spring of 2010 and fixing to finish up ob. I had a GPA of 3.8, A's in ap1&2, micro, stats, and psychology. My nln score was a 167. If you dont get in the first time reapply. Alot of times if you are not notified you got in you are put on a list. If some of the students that applied and got accepted decline then they will continue down the list. Be sure to be prepared for this. It is quite a shock. I work fulltime and attend fulltime. The course load is a lot but do not get discouraged.
