Motlow Nursing Instructors

U.S.A. Tennessee

Has anyone heard about some of the motlow nursing instructors leaving and the program director and what they are doing about it? About to start my first year there and was just trying to figure out what's going on??

Gotcha. Thanks for all the info by the way! Very helpful! I'm a CST and I had a hard time finding somewhere to work without experience when I graduated also. Plus everyone knew I was going back to school to be an RN so my clinical site where I could get a job didn't want to hire me since I would be in school :(. I have been working PRN at a hospital as a scrub tech for over 2 years so I'm hoping after graduating nursing school that experience with be beneficial to helping get a nursing job. Who knows though!

I graduated in May. And yeah, I am still looking for a job. A few friends were hired on for a New Grad Residency at Saint Thomas but they've been told there aren't enough positions for everyone once the residency is over. I did have a job for a week at a nursing home but there were some questionable things going on that I did not want to be a part of, so I left.

I know there are at least 5 students that did not pass NCLEX first try from my class. I think half of those who passed have gotten a job already.

Congratulations on graduating and passing the NCLEX! What an awesome accomplishment! Wow, there were at least 5 students who didn't pass the 1st time? Do you think that's average??? Thanks for answering my 73736 questions!

Side note: I have put in maybe 150 applications/resumes since May within an hour & half radius around murfreesboro... I've only had 2 interviews from those with the exception of attending 2 career fairs for Saint Thomas and one for the VA hospital. So...its been kind of tough![/quote']

Sorry to hear job searching has been so tough!!!! Do you still feel nursing is a good career? I can't afford to put so much money into something and not get a job reasonably soon post graduation.

In 2012, Motlows NCLEX pass rate was 99%, and I tink it was 98% in 2011 (I had to do a speech for winning a scholarship for the nursing class so I researched it!) I think this past semester was just a bad one. Not sure if it was the teaching method or just bad luck on the test takers. I'm sure they'll pass on the second try though!

I do think its a good career to get into. Since my last reply, I've interviewed with a mental health facility & feel I have a pretty good chance at it. I think its just like everywhere else where it will take time to get a job, but eventually one will come along. Plus, I think the healthcare changes that are going on have caused some of these hiring freezes, and I would assume within the next year or so, they'll settle down & start hiring again. But I would still recommend trying to get a foot in somewhere early on and/or apply to RN positions early in the 4th semester. :) Just in case.

I was just curious what made you decided to change careers from CST? I have looked into that field in the past so I was just wondering.

Pretty much any field healthcare related or not you are going to find some sort of difficulty finding a job. Its not a guarantee that when you graduate your going to have a job in any profession.

Well I never really wanted to be a nurse until I went to school to be a CST. I always liked watching surgery on tv and there was a school in the town I live that had a surgical tech program. I figured out that I was really interested in everything medical and I knew I wanted to take my career as far as I could. After I get my ASN i will go back and get my BSN and i eventually want to be a nurse practitioner but Im not sure what specialty yet. Every place that i have gone to for clinicals and the place that I work all the anesthetist seem to bond with me and tell me that im gonna go to anesthesia school but Im not sure if thats what I really want to do. I really love surgery so I will probably stick with being an OR nurse when I graduate. With nursing there are just so many opportunities like being able to switch jobs or departments if you get tired of one. As a CST you are just limited to one department and that's it. Plus with nursing there is more job opportunities and of course a much higher salary. I can still scrub in as a nurse if I am working in the OR.

Yes, I understand the economy isn't the greatest at this at time. I already earned a degree and I have a professional career. I simply cannot afford to leave my current profession if the odds of securing employment aren't that high post graduation. I can't afford to make a colossal mistake that could cost me thousand of dollars. Further, I understand there is no guarantee of a job...in any field. I wasn't asking about a guarantee. I just wanted to hear recent experiences from a new graduate from the same school which I will be attending.
