Has anyone heard about some of the motlow nursing instructors leaving and the program director and what they are doing about it? About to start my first year there and was just trying to figure out what's going on??

The director left because she found a teaching position at another college that she really wanted. One instructor is having a baby and took the year off, another got married, and one was let go. I know I saw the job postings online a few months ago when I was looking for a job. A few friends of mine are coming back for second year this fall & we've been discussing what they're probably going to do. I'm sure they'll have it all figured out by the time school starts back. There are a lot of good instructors left, so I wouldn't worry. Plus another instructor used to be Director back a few years ago, so I'm sure she will probably take the position until it can be filled.

Do either of you know how many of the same instructors will be there this year as in recent years? I'd read so many positive remarks about the instructors and in fact, that was a main factor I applied to Motlow.
My favorites are all still there (except 1, the one having the baby). They are really good. Very hard on you at times, but if they know you are doing your best, they're there to help.

I wasn't really scared about it just wondering what someone's point of view that is already in the program on the situation. I'm also super excited to start!

Good luck to both of you (and everyone else in your class!!) It is a really tough program, I won't lie. The hardest thing I've ever done. But also the most gratifying!

I may have missed this, but will you be a 2nd year student this fall, or have you graduated? If you've graduated, did you have a problem finding a job? I've read on this website that a lot of new grads. are having problems finding employment.

I graduated in May. And yeah, I am still looking for a job. A few friends were hired on for a New Grad Residency at Saint Thomas but they've been told there aren't enough positions for everyone once the residency is over. I did have a job for a week at a nursing home but there were some questionable things going on that I did not want to be a part of, so I left.
I know there are at least 5 students that did not pass NCLEX first try from my class. I think half of those who passed have gotten a job already.
Side note: I have put in maybe 150 applications/resumes since May within an hour & half radius around murfreesboro... I've only had 2 interviews from those, with the exception of attending 2 career fairs for Saint Thomas and one for the VA hospital. So...its been kind of tough!

Mostly them wanting experience & the positions that are open for new grads are being flooded with applications (my theory at least!)
I am applying to anything and everything! Gave up on being picky after the first couple of weeks! I literally googled "medical" and sent every single place an email with my resume and cover letter.
I was co-Treasurer of the class, member of SNA and actively volunteered for activities at school. I was one of the top of the class as well and have great references from my clinical instructors. So I think the job market is just pretty rough right now.
My advice is to try to find an extern position or any way to get your foot in the door somewhere. Or apply for RN positions during your last semester, so you have a head start. Also, don't out off your NCLEX test date. I had an offer at the VA in Murfreesboro but they had to decline because I hadn't received my license number by the time the job posting closed (took my NCLEX the same day it closed! Grrrr!)
