TEAS V Exam Score

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Hello everyone,

I just took my Teas v exam and am very disappointed! I got an overall score of 76.7% which is in the 83rd national percentile rank. I really thought I'd do better since I'm a 4.0 student. I scored lowest in English and Reading. I didn't study these much as I thought I knew them well. Guess not! My school apparently only requires a 64.3% and they only care if you passed or not. I'm debating on retaking it after studying the English and Reading sections better. What do you all suggest? I'd really appreciate the feedback and suggestions!

Thanks!

You need to look at results from ATI testing which includes TEAS as just a number. We take ATI tests in our program and a Level 3 (highest) lower limit on a test are around 72.5 and Level 2 (passing) of 63. You can't look at them as being a grade percentage. It is very difficult to get above 80s on TEAS and the ATI proctored exams.

You scored higher than 83% of the people (nationally) that took the TEAS which includes a vast majority that have very high GPAs.

Look at your school specific rank. If you are high - like 85th percentile or higher you should be ok. The 4.0 GPA also makes up for lower teas scores. Some people underestimate the TEAS and do not study for it. The reality is it's hard to recall some of the questions they ask are from high-school days so taking practice tests is recommended.

Another thing you can do is just call the school and ask them if your score is competitive. They should have no problem providing you this information and they would be able to better advise you. I did this when I first applied to nursing school. My advisor gave me an 85% as competitive for our school, I got 84% and of course I got in.

NOTE: If you retake and score lower, some schools only take the most recent score while some lets you take the highest of the 2, please ask them their policy on this prior to making this decision.

I wouldn't retake it, if all your school requires is pass/fail. And I think you're being too hard on yourself. High 70's isn't horrible!

Check with all of the programs you wish to apply to. My program only accepts the FIRST attempt. Good luck!
