New TEAS V Science Section

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Has anyone taken the latest version, the TEAS V? My test is coming up April 6. I have the ATI version V study guide, and the McGraw Hill book.

What should I be sure to study when it comes to the latest version of the test?

I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread! My turn with version V happened today, and I'm really pleased with my results--88.7% overall, 99th percentile. I only learned last December that I would have to take the test (school just began requiring for latest application round), and then thought I had until late March to take it. Found out mid-January that I needed to take it sooner, so it was cram time. I took notes from this thread on what to target during study prep, and it paid off :) I didn't have time to order any ATI study books, but did manage to get my hands on the McGraw-Hill book through the public library four days prior to the test. I think mostly advice from this thread and McGraw-Hill made the difference for me.

Thanks again to everyone!

I'm an Ivy Tech Muncie student hoping to start the nursing program in August. I took the TEAS V yesterday, and my goal was to get above 80%. I was really excited to get an 84% because the test seemed a little harder than the ATI study guide practice tests. My score is in the 95th percentile, but based on your comments I'm wondering if I shouldn't try again. Because I have all A's in the prerequisite classes at Ivy Tech, I have 174 points out of the total 190 (90 points possible for the four required classes + 100 points possible for the TEAS). I can only take the test twice in a two-year period. If I take the test again and still don't get into the program, I don't know what I'll do. I need some advice. Do I use my score of 84%, potentially not get into the program, and wait one year to reapply? Or do I take the test again (bettering my chances of success), still potentially not get into the program, and wait two years to reapply?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just in case anyone is curious, the mean national scores in each of the four sections are:

Reading, 69.7%

Mathematics, 68.0%

Science, 51.9%

English, 62.9%

Overall Mean, 63.3%

All this means is that it's not unusual to bomb the test...especially in the science section.

Search online and in the library for any information about Biology 103 you can find. That covers a lot of the Science part. The other is pretty much stuff you have had since 8th grade. You can do it...

i recently took the teas v, and scored an 88.7% overall, with an 87.5% (99th percentile) on the science section. in addition to the ati v study guide, i used the mcgraw-hill study guide to review for the science, as well as the kaplan nursing entrance exam guide. i took the teas 4.0 back in october since i had the option of taking either version for one school, and i scored an 87.1. on the 4.0 my science score was only in the 70's. in my case, the v science was easier to study for because it was more focused on life science, a&p, and chemistry, and did not have as many random earth science and physics questions.

I just took my teas exam and totally bombed the science part, I just hope the rest of the parts make up for it and boost my score, I thought there would be more anatomy and physiology but there was hardly any.

@ 78taylor99 What is different about the science portion in the McGraw-Hill book than in the ATI?

@UpstateNyDollCna what was your teas score, if you don't mind my asking because I am taking probably 3-15-2011 and I am trying to bush up on anything that needs it

The McGraw-Hill book goes into more depth with the science topics. I also have a little book from Barron's called Painless Life Science. This book covers basic chemistry, classification, cells, genetics, human body systems, ecology, and a few other topics.

I did not get my score yet, probably by wed I think I will have it. The test I took was mostly Life science(rna, dna, phenotypes, genotypes and cells), earth and physical science and a few scientific reasoning questions.

Maybe I am wrong but I do not see what those type of questions have to do with the nursing course, I feel I should have been tested more on anatomy and physiology.

I have taken the TEAS 4, I scored pretty good on it but from these threads it seems like the 5 is alot harder. I am about to take the TEAS V. I have also taken the PAX-RN exam, I scored a composite of 121 on it, so i'm going to take it again just to be safe. Another school is asking me to take the NLN preentrance exam which I thought was the same thing as the PAX, but it's not. I take that test on the third. Has anyone ever taken that exam and if so, was is the format on it?

I just took the TEAS V yesterday. I actually scored higher on the math (missed 1) and higher on the science (missed 3) than the TEAS 4. I sucked for the spelling portion of the english section though. I took a practice test 2 days before, but that's all I did to prepare. I think it helped get me into test mode. But all the questions are so random, I don't think you can really study for it.

I think the science questions on the exam are bogus though. They're all so random....I know I did well, like 94% or something, but seriously, the questions are so random.

Whoops. I got edited for writing stuff about what was on the science portion of the exam. I only gave clues, no exact questions. Oh well. Message me if u want my email address to ask me questions.
