I was updating my application to Kaiser's MSN CRNA program, and once I was in, found out this shocking news, guess many people will not apply...

CRNA Program Update

Pending final California State University Chancellor's Office approval, starting in Fall 2018, this CRNA program will be transitioned from an MSN program to a DNP program. The program will be offered through Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia and the Southern California CSU DNP Consortium which includes CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach and CSU Los Angeles. CSU Fullerton will be still be the primary university partner for the program.

All the information on the CSUF School of Nursing and the KPSA websites will be updated in the next few weeks. The Governor just signed the bill to make this change possible on October 12, 2017 and we were unable to publicize this change until the bill was signed.

The study plan is pending final approval from the CSU Chancellor's office but you may view the proposed study plan by clicking on the link: DNP CRNA Study Plan.

The application process and all admission requirements remain the same for the Fall 2018 admission cycle. If you are seeing this information, you have completed Steps 1 – 3 of the admission process and are eligible to submit the online CSUF School of Nursing application (Step 4).

Prior to starting the application for Fall 2018, please review the chart below which highlights the major changes for the program.

Am I missing something? Many anesthesia programs are transitioning from MSN to DNP/DNAP degrees with little prior notice. The additional credits needed for completion of a doctoral degree inevitably leads to an increase in tuition costs. Hardly shocking.

I think the OP's point might be that this was only presented after he or she was admitted / paid a deposit. Maybe they turned down other schools they got into because Kaiser was a less expensive, master's option? Whatever the case, it sucks for those admitted thinking they'd be doing a shorter and cheaper master's program.

ok, I missed the part

This program has several preliminary application parts we had to do before the official application between Nov.1 to 30th. We'd been told about the 24 months master program with 23000 instate tuition all the time. never see anything about DNP on the website or from the information session. Kaiser's program has been extremely popular because of its reasonable tuition. However, when I opened up the application yesterday, it suddenly became a DNP program. Tuition now is 68000 for in state and 110000 for out of state. Never received an email or notification before. That is shocking. If it has something relevant on its website, I would not be shocking.

yup... instate tuition : 90 kish

out of state tuition: +110k ish

last year :Master was 35k ish, or 65k out of state. :/

They mentioned this during my counseling session. If you are applying, you must have gone through the same counseling session. But yes.. I guess it's really happening! Still one of the most affordable programs.

mine was phone counseling. Guess he was just tired to tell people the news...

I didn't even get to apply due to the prelim application submission. Supposedly, they stopped giving out counseling sessions if you sent in CV and transcripts after August. I submitted mine late September and was told to apply again next year. Wish I would have known there are a limited number of sessions or else I would have submitted my materials mid June. Plus, the website states "...counseling session, if needed". Probably my fault :\

This isn't shocking news, this is good news. One of the best and most affordable programs in the country is transitioning to the DNP. Still the cheapest route on can take to get a DNP and become a CRNA. Still amazing teachers who are leaders in the profession, one of whom sits on the COA, one of whom sits on the NBCRNA, and one of whom is the principal author of the only all CRNA textbook. This will only make the program that much more competitive, and that much more desirable.

Do you think it'll remain affordable? I thought tuitions increased at schools once they made the transition..?
