Barry CRNA Starting 2018

Nursing Students SRNA

Hello all! I just thought I would start a thread for those of us applying. I have started my application and I am working on my personal statement now. How are you all doing?

I have taken the GRE and passed my CCRN. I still need to get my PALS. I also need to ask for my letters of recommendation and send in my school transcripts & GRE scores. I'm going to try to apply for the Tampa campus.

Orlando for me as well.

Did you receive an email with the things you needed to email in? Like the resume and things. I haven't received one but I submitted my application on the 16th of December and I think the University closed that day

FS,

I did receive confirmation that my online application was received. I called last week and spoke with one of the administrative staff and went over what they had received and what they hadn't. They are still waiting for one of my letters of recommendation, which I don't really have control over. I sent most of my documents (admission essay, resume, certifications, licenses, etc.) via email so I received confirmation via a quick "thanks" each time I sent a new document.

I figure I won't hear anything for a while after holdiay break.

Are you applying anywhere else? I am a little worried that I jumped the gun and applied too early. Although getting in would be a great relief, I do want to be able to weigh my options and the other schools I am applying for don't interview until June or July.

I plan to apply to USF eventually but so far this is my first application.

Yes I did get the email where they told me what was missing. Most of my documents were sent via email so I was able to get quick feedback via the "Thanks" email.

What I have done (which seems to work well for me) is scan the paper items I have like my AACN certifications, ACLS, RN license, etc. Then I save the documents to a folder labeled "application documents." That makes it easier to keep track of for doing multiple applications. It's also nice to have a saved copy of those documents on file just in case you need them for quick reference when you're not at home.

As others have said...

CCRN

GRE>305 ideal

Good references from manager, attending., CRNA or anesthesiologist.

Shadow experience

If you get an interview you are good, just don't throw any red flags. The entire invite is an interview, not just the sit down with the director portion. AKA, ask questions, be involved in the presentations, but don't be annoying or confronting.

Definitely take the head start courses, all of them. They are entirely possible while still working full time. Expect to drop around 13k out of pocket with head start courses and deposits. It will be worth it.

Thanks kbl7td,

I'm assuming you've taken all the head start courses already? How manageable is it to take the two head start classes in the fall (chem/physics and the other fluff course) while working a full time job? Any insight on that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The other course is literally what you said, a fluff course. Chem and physics isn't bad, just keep up with the readings and understand the information. It helps to have had a recent course. The physics portion is literally just one section of the course and some of one test. Mostly focused on gas laws. Be prepared to learn everything yourself, this is grad school after all, you will not be babysat.

Ya, I had a full time job. A lot of time worked 4-5 12s a week and I still had a life just fine.

I haven't received that email yet that tells you to submit your resume. I submitted my application December 16th. I called the other day and they said I should get the email this week and that they were behind from the winter break. Hoping I get it soon so I can make my application complete.

Hey guys! also have submitted my application :) cant wait to hear back! anybody know when they start giving out interviews?

I know that the interviews started in March last year.

Hello! I have not applied yet - taking my GRE on Tuesday and my CCRN in February. When is the deadline for the application? Also I have not taken chemistry but I was told I can take it in the summer - even after my interview? (God willing I get it)

any thoughts?

Hello everyone. I'm working on my application right now. I took the GRE a few days ago and plan on taking the CCRN in February. I'm BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certified with a 3.7 GPA. Nevertheless, I don't really anticipate getting accepted this year because of my 195 GRE score (I only had like 5 days to prep) and with a mere 6 months of ICU experience (+ >1yr of ER before that) I'm basically here to make everyone else feel better about themselves. : )
