Is it wise to take graduate Patho and Pharmacology in the same semester?

Hi,

I am currently registered for advanced patho and research I of II and was wondering if it is wise to take pharmacology along with the two as I do not know the difficultness of graduate pharmacology. Any input would be helpful. BTW. I work the weekend program and am single with no kids, so family is not an issue in regards to time restraint.

Cheers,

Tim

I know I tried to take both pharm and patho this past summer at Texas Tech and they ended up dropping me from pharm....said it was way too hard to take them both during a shortened semester. Had it been spring or fall they would have let me though. I thought patho was a breeze and am about to start pharm 1-17-12..........Good luck

I am still wondering if I should attempt three courses though. Patho, Pharm and Research I or just stick to Patho and Research I and then Pharm and Research II in the fall. Any thoughts? I know the research course can be time consuming as I have heard.

Patho has the reputation for being your hardest class ever. I just finished patho with an A, but studied about 4-6 hrs/day on my off days. I've never heard of anyone taking both at once.

I would recommend taking them separately. To me it's really important to thoroughly know patho and pharm, and to take the time to actually learn them, just not memorize for the test since that's what you'll use most in practice.

I just recently completed Adv. Patho, Adv. Pharm, Adv. Research, and Adv. Health Assessment in the FNP program last fall. It was difficult but I did pass everything and did quite well. Like you, I have no kids so family wasn't an issue. But I did study a lot! If you are willing to give up the next few months to studying then you will be fine. Good luck to you! You can do it! :)

I just finished Patho and Pharm last semester. I actually liked having both of the classes together as I felt they fed on each other. Pharm often provided review for what I was learning in Patho. I ended up w/ a B in Patho and A- in Pharm. I don't know about adding research to that mix though. I hate writing papers, lol.

At our level, patho and pharm should benefit eachother, not detract. Proper prescribing of drugs requires a mastery of the underlying pathology, and learning the drugs is no different. Especially since we only do a semester of each, I think they go along nicely.
