TWU in Denton NP Program OR UTA NP Program

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hi!

I have 2 years experience in Med-Surg, Telemetry and Oncology. I am single with no kids and work full time (three 12 hour shifts) NIGHT shift at a hospital on a TELE/ONC floor. I am wanting to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and work in state health dept clinic. Recently, I have applied for Texas Woman's University Family NP program in Denton and University of Texas at Arlington Family NP Program. I still haven't heard back but I am wanting to start school FALL 2011.

My questions are for former and current students of TWU and/or UTA in the FAMILY NP Program.

1. What do you like and dislike about the program?

2. What are their Family NP exam pass rates?

3. Did you work FULL TIME or PART TIME while attending school? or NOT work at all?

4. Would you encourage me (single, no kids) to work FULL TIME and go to school FULL-TIME?

5. Which is easier to juggle, working NIGHT SHIFT OR DAY SHIFT and attending school?

6. Did you have to go for an interview before acceptance into the NP program? What did it consist of?

7. Do you think my 2 years experience as a staff RN in a hospital is ENOUGH experience to go back for my masters FNP?

8. What made you decide on your school? What was the determining factor?

9. Do you have to find your own perceptors? How did you find them? How does the school assist you find perceptors, if you are not able to find one?

10. Was anyone able to find grants or scholarships to attend grad school?

11. How many classes were online and on campus? Because I will have to commute from Lewisville and Denton is closer to be than Arlington.

Thank you. LOL. Sorry so many questions. I appreciate any feedback!

Hey there...congrats on being accepted ! Are you going to accept or are you going to wait to hear from UTa as well ?

Hi,missvictoriat,

I applied to TWU as well but I was rejected. My GRE is super but I think My GPA turned me away. Sad.....not sure what to do at this time.....I live in Lewisville as well.

THANK YOU, CARACHEL2! I've been debating about that EXACT thing....LOL. But I think I am going to accept TWU because its closer to where I live (LEWISVILLE). I remember you saying......LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. And in plus, Arlington is 45 minutes away. UTA's deadline is JUNE 1st. I dont' think I could wait that long to hear back.

I was beginning to think about my class schedule. Now, of course, I'm going part-time, so I will be only taking about 6 or 7 hours at MOST each semester. I know you talked about how you went part-time, as well. I've heard HORROR STORIES of taking Adv.Patho with Adv.Pharm and or either of these with Adv. Assessment.

So I wanted to know, which classes work best with each other and which to ABSOLUTELY AVOID taking together?

I was think taking theory & adv.assessment (1st semester), then research & adv. patho (2nd semester), and Adv.Pharm with Adv.Nursing Role (3rd semester). What do you think?

Specializes in trauma ICU,TNCC, NRP, PALS, ACLS.

I was accepted to TWU FNP parkland campus !!! My gre sucked, but my gpa was okay. I have 3 years exp in icu and radiology

At UTA, if you were going part-time they had a certain order in which you pretty much had to do your classes. I would absolutely make sure you take Adv. Assessment as close to when you are about to start your main clinical classes. AA requires a clinical component (about 50 hours) at UTA so they would not let you take that and then sit dormant so to speak and not have clinicals.

CONGRATULATIONS!! FINALLY, I hear back from a FALL 2011 TWU FNP student! LOL, even though we are on different campuses, we should keep in touch for support! Are you going to school PART-TIME or FULL-TIME? I'm going part-time. Have you spoke with your advisor and decided which classes you are going to take? I'm soo excited about starting! But I haven't decided which classes I will take. It seems like at first, the most are online.

Hi!I got into the FNP program at TWU at the Parkland campus! Yay! I've heard UTA has a great program as well. My coworker got her FNP at UTA then went back for her PMHP, she really liked it...

I will be at TWU Denton campus this fall as well - think it would be great to meet some of my fellow students before term begins if anyone is up for getting together for lunch/dinner/a drink?

Hi all, I'm going to TWU's Denton campus this Fall for my FNP too. Glad to know we have a little group going on here!

I checked Blackboard, and saw that there would be a lot of work to be done this semester. Good luck to everybody!
