Travel Nursing While in Graduate School

Hey everyone! I applied for graduate school for the fall and I'm currently venturing into the world of travel nursing. Has anyone here done graduate school while being a travel nurse?

I'm wondering about this too although I'm still in nursing school...

Like if I did an online grad program and travel nursing?

I considered this also but chickened out! When I was doing my "bookwork" type classes I probably could have considering I only had to be on campus about 3 days each semester. The rest was online. Not sure how clinicals would go traveling though.

Hope someone else can better address your question! I'm now considering locum tenens for NP's when I get a few years behind me.

I have two classmates who were travel nurses for the didactic portion of our program. They went back to working at their local facility shortly before they started the clinical portion of the program so they would be in one area for the clinicals.

Hey zmansc,

Thanks for the response. For the clinical portion, absolutely I'll go back to my home state as that's where my main home is located. I would like to try my hand at travel nursing for a few years and I'm hoping that if I get into graduate school that it will line up with this. I think it'll be fun. :)

I was thinking when clinicals started I could find a staff position. Locus tenens is exactly what I want to do too. :)

Update: Soooo I just got accepted into a doctoral program to become an FNP shortly after accepting a travel RN position. So it looks like I'm going to be a travel nurse while in graduate school for the didactic portion of my college career. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm just hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew but I really want this for myself. I'm just going to have to make it work.

Congrats on your accptance! By now you will have been straddling travel nursing and grad school for about a year. How as it worked out? I'm looking to start travel nursing and grad school around September 2016, so I'm looking into travel agencies and grad schools now. I'd love to connect with you and hear how your experience has been! Have you loved this life, or is this a challenge I should stay clear from? My email is [email protected]
