Just wondering if any nurses out there have submitted applications for the spring 2014 FNP program. Would like to hear any information you have gotten from admissions office on how many people they plan to accept, and how long it will take them to send out acceptance/denial letters. Lets keep in touch and keep those fingers crossed!!!

Good point noodlemoore. Well I suppose I should be happy I was accepted at all with as competitive as it is. It seems like a lot of people are choosing the FNP route these days.

I have also applied for the spring 2014 semester of the Texas Tech FNP program. As far as how many people they plan to accept I have no idea, however, I called the other day to ask when we would get notification of acceptance/denial letters and they said that it would be sent out October 1st via email. I hope I get it!! Fingers crossed here too!! Best of luck to you!

Congratulations on the acceptance! Inbox me if you can. If not here are the basics....it's a very competitive program to get into so congrats. That being said it is also one of the most organized nursing schools. Next month you should get your schedule and degree plan this tells you which classes you will be taking for the next 3yrs. 1st semester there are no clinicals but there is a lot of research so prepare to spend extra time. Orientation is on campus in Lubbock where you meet your classmates and faculty learn how to access the library and simulation and former graduates are present both days to answer questions. Dont worry about finding a preceptor 1st semester. There is a list of preceptors and contracts school online and the facility requirement. Start reaching ouy out to the facility contact so that you can get it on the computer then if you have your own hand picked preceptor even start earlier because they have to draft the contract. The faculty is amazingly supportive of the students and response time is great some even provide their cell # for contact! But....don't let that make you relax though. ....remember they only picked the best of the best so be on top of your game and you will do great. Overall after listening to other students complaining I have an awesome time with the faculty and have zero regrets! GO RAIDERS!

Congratulations on you admission to the program. i was accepted to the program too. I hope to know more of you and if we can be friends.

@ Toasterboy -How do you like program? IS it expensive? I live in Dallas, how often do I have to drive?

Congrats! I started in the Spring of 2014 and I really enjoy the program!

It is NOT easy by any means but it is worth it! Travel to Lubbock is only required when you are enrolled in classes with clinical components. You will only be there for about 2-3 days where you will receive a day of clinical learning experiences and simulated patient encounters. I did not travel until the third semester.

Orientation is 2 days and they do a great job of staying on track, providing all needed info, and answering questions.

Books can be rented or purchased on Amazon for reasonable prices. Make sure you have a reliable computer and Internet source.

First semester is HEAVY research and some group projects. Some instructors grade harder than others, so as long as you do your absolute best you will be fine. Brush up on APA format and buy the reference book they recommend.

Tuition is reasonable and there are many scholarship options. It's around $4,000 or less a semester or so.

Check your email and Webraider (the site you use for coursework) DAILY! Print out syllabus and calendar for each course to stay on track!

Remember, in this program, grades less than 80 are failing. Tests and quizzes are online and timed.

Start looking for preceptors NOW. Don't waste time! It took me a year to find mine as some back out, change jobs, or change their minds. Utilize your local NP organizations, they will help you find preceptors.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi noodlemoore! I just got accepted into the Nurse Midwifery tract and start in January! I know its not FNP, but my first two classes are Health Policy & Research. Just wondering if I really need the "required" books, or if you had a favorite professor? Any other tips for me? Thanks!
