  1. Congrats! I started in the Spring of 2014 and I really enjoy the program! It is NOT easy by any means but it is worth it! Travel to Lubbock is only required when you are enrolled in classes with clinical components. You will only be there for about 2-3 days where you will receive a day of clinical learning experiences and simulated patient encounters. I did not travel until the third semester. Orientation is 2 days and they do a great job of staying on track, providing all needed info, and answering questions. Books can be rented or purchased on Amazon for reasonable prices. Make sure you have a reliable computer and Internet source. First semester is HEAVY research and some group projects. Some instructors grade harder than others, so as long as you do your absolute best you will be fine. Brush up on APA format and buy the reference book they recommend. Tuition is reasonable and there are many scholarship options. It's around $4,000 or less a semester or so. Check your email and Webraider (the site you use for coursework) DAILY! Print out syllabus and calendar for each course to stay on track! Remember, in this program, grades less than 80 are failing. Tests and quizzes are online and timed. Start looking for preceptors NOW. Don't waste time! It took me a year to find mine as some back out, change jobs, or change their minds. Utilize your local NP organizations, they will help you find preceptors. Let me know if you have any more questions!
  2. I am in the FNP program at TTUHSC and I started Spring 2014. I had a 3.95 GPA and I was denied the first time I applied. I was told there were too many applicants. We have approximately 40 or so FNP majors, 20 or so ACNP, and the rest of the MSN students are scattered among the majors (Administration, Education, Informatics, PNP, Nurse Midwife, etc.). The application process is tedious and getting accepted isn't difficult if you have the grades and good letters of rec. But...the question is...will they have a slot available? Don't give up, if you don't get in the first time due to the number of qualified applicants, re-apply! I got in the second time :) The classes ARE NOT easy going...I don't know who is saying that...they must not have taken the same courses I have. I am currently in Patho and it is a heavy course. Lots of studying, reading, lectures, case studies, etc. You will need approximately 15-18 hours to study per week. The Research and Policy courses aren't too bad...just A LOT of busy work, research papers, group projects, board postings, etc. The program is 8 semesters long, so keep that in mind. It is nice if you have a family and need to work full-time. You will be able to manage the course load and your personal/professional life. You have to travel to Lubbock for orientation (2 days) and then about two or three semesters later whenever you have clinical classes (about 5 semesters). During those times you will only need to stay for about 3 days to run through skills testing.
  3. This semester, about 8-12
  4. What's two extra semesters? It gives students time to absorb the information and have time to work and be with their family.
  5. It was great! The Instructors and wonderful! Group projects, lots of online forum postings and research papers...so if that's your cup of tea, you'll love the research and health policy courses the first semester. No travel to Lubbock until the third semester :)
  6. It is 8 semesters, including Summer semesters. There is no option to take additional courses
  7. Wonderful! Thank you for the info!
  8. I am currently in the TTUHSC FNP program and I am looking to get my ACNP post-masters. How did the application process work? Any suggestions?!
  9. I am going into the FNP! Texas Tech hasa fabulous reputation here in Texas, you can't go wrong with them. I did my RN-BSN with them online and the Instructors are amazing, the lines of communication are always open, and they really value you as a student. I was accepted to Texas A&M Corpus as well, but my first choice is TTUHSC. I know we have to travel to Lubbock a few times a year as well, so that is something to consider....but when picking a Grad school, pick the one that fits for you and your family's needs :) I look forward to meeting everyone at orientation!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!
  10. Sorry to hear, ladies Don't give up!!!! You WILL get in...if not at TTUHSC, then definitely somewhere else!
  11. I got in!!!!! Just got an email! Has anyone else heard anything yet???
  12. This is my second time applying. I received a rejection email about a week after the notifications were supposedly sent out (for Fall 2013). The email said something about budgetary cuts and the fact that I lived far from the Lubbock area. But, I figured I would try again!
  13. Gah! Still nothing either way...the suspense is killing me!
  14. I haven't received a rejection or an acceptance yet. Wondering if those who were accepted had a different Merlin status than those who were not?
  15. What did your Merlin Application say? Mine still has a lot of info blank and no status I am so anxious!!!
