South University online NP?

Nursing Students NP Students

If I remember correctly, their NP program was only available on campus not too long ago. How long has the online NP been established? Has anyone here on allnurses.com attended and graduated from the online program? If so, how was your overall experience?

Here's the link to the program webpage:

Would live to hear all of you guys thoughts! I searched allnurses for more info but it yielded no profitable results. Thanks!

I am starting the FNP at South online on March 17th as well! They accepted ALL of my credits which totaled 18 credit hours into the program, or in my original college it was 12 credits. They are so great to work with and affordable. I am going to finish the program in a little over a year, I am so excited... Where are you from?

Wow that's great! So I take it you already had some master's classes already done? I have just completed my bsn. I am from Kentucky. Where are you from?

Yess, I completed adv. pharm, adv. patho, and adv. health assessment at online and the credits transferred in no problem! I literally searched 100's of programs searching for one that would work for me, and it came down to Chamberlain and South... Chamberlain would only accept two classes worth of transfer credits (Walden too), was not as flexible, was slightly more money, and requires an on campus visit... South is amazing when it comes to advising, I love having a personal adviser, an academic adviser, and a financial adviser. I feel like they are my friends at this point, they have been in constant touch and are SO helpful. I know a lot of people are weary about these newer "online" programs, but the fact is they are CCNE certified and with the growing demand for nurse practitioners, these programs are going to become vital to our health care system and well respected.

MY FAVORITE PART of South is that the $436/credit hour covers the cost of almost all textbooks used in the program through a "digital library" so you can use them on your kindle or ipad. It is pretty neat, it allows you to high-lite and make notes. I spent $600 in my other program for textbooks for ONE class so its a big saving. Personally, though, I prefer having a tangible text book to study and high-lite from, so I probably will also order hard copies for any practicum courses. For the basic theory/research courses I think e-books are good enough.

Congrats on your BSN... Don't listen to everyone when they tell you it's bad that you have no experience and are returning to school... I actually find it beneficial- in the classes I already completed, all of the nurses who have 20 years experience and are just returning are struggling with the change in roles and going from "nursing" to "diagnosing and treating". We aren't stuck in that mindset so we have it easier. If we were going for an acute care degree I can see why we would need hospital experience but not for the FNP!

I am from Southern NJ, The real Jersey Shore- not the one you see on TV! lol I am 24 years old, how about you? We must stay in contact it is always helpful having someone to talk with about classes!

I am doubling up all the core courses for now but we will still be in some classes together!

Wow that's great! Here is my real email if u want to keep in touch. [email protected]. You should 've very proud to be 24 and already in NP school. I think south will be fine. You get out of it what you put into it I think. Im 38. I started my career as a respiratory therapist and went back to school to be a nurse. I have been a nurse for 6 years working in critical care and now I am a rapid response nurse. I plan to double some courses too but they told me I was not allowed to double the first one. There is a facebook group just search fpr south fnp.

Cchavan why did you leave ?

I absolutely LOVED ... It is very affordable and they really have the whole online-class setup figured out perfectly... I originally had my mind set on going to Stockton College for my FNP, Local and a hybrid program so it seemed like my best option.... Meanwhile I took adv. patho and adv. pharm online through Drexel as a non-matriculated student... I was taking these two courses but was not enrolled in the actual program. Most schools don't allow that, but Drexel is so large that if you get accepted non-matric you can take up to 12 credits. I got accepted to Stockton College and at the time was so happy... STOCKTON COLLEGE IS A NIGHTMARE.... I honestly don't even know how they are accredited... I wouldn't complain if a program was "easy" as long as I was learning... It is so basic and the material covered was more basic that my undergrad education.... and rather than teach you what you need to know to be an NP, they focus most of their attention on APA formatting... After hearing doctors and preceptors comment that Stockton students indeed were not prepared I dropped the program and was hoping to transfer into Drexel.... (They are the best college to work with they answer all of your questions right away its great) Unfortunately, as of right now, "clinical seats are full for this summer – 2014; we are currently collecting data for the clinical summer of 2015. We should have this information around the first week of April. If seats are available, the department will look into removing the hold for allowing students to switch to the FNP track." I am eager to get going with my degree and didn't want to wait around for the program to open. Otherwise I have nothing but amazing things to say about Drexel!

I will begin South on March 17 and they accepted all of my drexel credits and 2 out of 3 classes completed at Stockton, including Adv Health assessment which takes a practicum off my course load!

Specializes in Geriatrics/family medicine.

they didn't take my advanced health assesment course that is why I didn't go there

@adventure780, Was it South or that would not accept your health assessment? That's a heavy class I couldn't imagine retaking it, I hate labs, not to mention time! You are from NJ?? I am too, where do you work and what program did you return to that you were originally in??

I will not say anything more just that South wouldn't take my Health Assessment course, I didn't want to retake it so I am just trying to figure out what to do now
