Hi,
I have an 11 yr old son, who has chronic ear wax. We try to stay on top of it by putting Debrox or something of the sort in his ear on a regular basis. I thought about getting one of the home otoscopes to check his ears, but I didn't know if I will have to buy one for my clinicals. Have any of you had to purchase or use your own?

My program required that we buy one. That being said...there were no requirements on what we bought. We just had to have on for the assessment class. We had to have oto and ophth.
Good to know!! I believe I am in the same program you are/were in, but I'm just starting 2nd quarter.
Quarters over the traditional semesters narrows down schools! Lol

My program didn't require an otoscope, but I had bought one years earlier for the same problem you're stating. My daughter frequently would complain about her ears so it came in handy for me then. During my pedi rotation though, the clinic (one pediatrician) didn't have wall mounted scopes so my personal one was a lifesaver. It's probably a good tool to have for almost any healthcare professional who has children.
You are right, Mike. I find myself using my nursing tools on my kids more often than not. I have been looking on amazon to see what would be a good buy. It will definitely get used at home!

Our program requires it for FNP, PNP, and maybe adult primary. We have a great supplier that will be on campus next week with them and perks for buying them in person (on top of the $100 less they are already compared with Amazon and others).
