New FNP student at Walden University.

Nursing Students NP Students

I just got accepted to start the FNP program this March at Walden University. Getting very nervous about it. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

That's is so cool... However, I'm starting to lose patience with them. They are giving a run around about things on my clinical form and the work experience form. For example, I didn't put the exact date like 5/8/2015 instead I wrote it as Aug 14 or Aug 2014. So they wanted the day as well. Also on my clinical form, I put the site but not the person name on the form. I left the person name blank because I wasn't sure who it is going to be yet due to locations are like Walgreens or CVS that say don't contact the providers. Its a program they have for FNPs. Anyway, it's been a long road. I have to wait for the commuter to review my application. So they wanted me to be so thorough and not to be denied. Anyway, I wanted to know did any of you go through such difficulty?

I'm sorry I was typing so fast, but commuter should of been committee in the above writing

Sorry to hear that... I haven't had any issues with that stuff. My advisor said they were filled out perfectly. I haven't even had to get my official transcripts. My advisor said I can be accepted with unofficial transcripts and then they will get my official transcripts for me. I hope your experience gets better.

Walden is not great about many things. I could write a whole book about the lack of communication & issues with clinical sites. Im done in Feb theoretically, So Im committed at this point. however I hear much the same from students at other distance learning schools. If I had it to do over again, I would attend a brick & mortar school with a good rep.

Was trying not to be a negative nancy & I hope I didnt come off that way..😔

Sorry for your problems... I feel ya!

Oh ok...I understand. Anyway, I need to find out about doing clinical in another state. Do any of you know about that? Because I have a license in GA and SC, but live in GA. I work in SC, but I want to do my clinical in SC. So that's why I'm asking. Also, how fast do you find out if you get accepted or not? Did you have to pay any money to hold your spot?

walden requires about 3 months advance before the accept a potential preceptor. in my case, I must submit by june 1st for fall clinical rotations. Walden is less picky than many other NP programs as they allow PA's etc to precept; however the preceptor must align with your course objectives and you have to justify this in writing. They could care less what state you do clinicals in...many walden students go out of state for this. please let me know if that helps or if you need anything else... its a journey! :-)

Ok great information...thank you so much

any time! truly 😊

Goodness no! But i just picked a person in a clinic and put they name.. (my advisor told me to do this and said it wasn't set un stone). Lol. I am starting June 1st. Have to take 2 prerequisites. 1st quarter stat. And foundations. Nxt quarter humanities and issues and trends of nursing.

Oh ok....I am still waiting for acceptance...how long did it take to find out about acceptance. I had to write to the committee about reasons for GPA and all. Also congratulations for starting your program in June. I would love to start in June, but they said that class is close and I would have to start in November.

Yes the class is closed for the FNP program and set to open again for Nov 30th class. However, since a lot of the classes are exact, I was told it was possible to switch over to the FNP program if accepted into one of the other programs such as the Adult-Gerontology NP program. The recruiter stated that once accepted, just let them know that you would like to switch degree tracks and it would allow you to begin the NP process (by taking the Foundations and Policy classes which are the same for the FNP program) in June as opposed to November. Just a thought.

No you do not have to pay anything but there is a time frame for when you must start and if not you will have to reapply. It only took me about 2 days to find out if i was accepted. I live in GA and have a llicense in GA and SC. This schools let's you do clinicals where ever you are but you have to find them on your own.
