I'm buying books for my first semester of FNP school. My required is the APA 6th edition book, I've matched the USBN numbers...read that the "older" one has MANY errors, then they reprinted another one with corrections. How do I know which is which? One us a lighter blue, one is a darker blue.

And how do they know? Seriously? If you write it with PERRLA and save it as a regular document they have no way of even knowing. I don't understand why a facility would even care.

Never tried it so, I don't know much about it first hand. However, I've been told that PERRLA saves the file differently, or something so they can see it's PERRLA generated. I don't think APA for the paper is that hard to do myself. The citations are just ridiculous, but I spend very little time on the overall paper doing the citations. So, it's not worth the effort to try it since it's not a big deal for me.

If you have to submit the Word document, they can see the traces of PERRLA unless you strip out the VBA modules before you send it in. I always printed mine to PDF for submission which have no PERRLA footprints.

As formatting an APA style document is not difficult, I generally don’t recommend using any of the available programs. If you do choose to use one of these programs, be aware, as ♪♫ in my ♥ noted, that many of these programs are not 100% accurate. While formatting your reference list can be somewhat more difficult, it is not an insurmountable task as most of your references will either be journal articles or book chapters, neither of which is difficult to format.

I strongly recommend you not use any paper writing service. If you do, and you are found out, this will likely result in an honors violation.

Good luck with your program!

Personally, I'll continue to use it as it isn't against policy at my school. It does make my life easier....it saves me plenty of time doing the citations. I think the schools need to get their heads out of their rears. PERRLA and such are tools and far from cheating.

I wasn't suggesting that using PERRLA, or other such formatting tools, was cheating; I was suggesting, however, that the use of a writing service, such as the one at the following link, college-paper.org/?aff_code=...1ca&aff_src=15, might be considered cheating.

Regarding the use of formatting or reference management programs, I am suggesting that if you use one, be aware that it might not be accurate. I don't have any personal knowledge of PERRLA, however ♪♫ in my ♥ commented that he or she had to tweak it to get it to work. I have used three citation managers over the years and none of them worked without moderate tweaking.

BeeGeeRN,

Please do not rely on the color of the book. My APA 6th edition is a black hard copy. I borrowed it from the local school library. PERRLA, you might also want to invest in PERRLA, an online software program that will configure any paper you write automatically to fit the APA 6th editions (citations and reference page); its a no brainer with telephone and online support if you have any trouble.

I just went to youtube for APA formatting... :)

Yes the APA books have errors, so what I do is checking the most updated APA at PURDUE OWL, that website has everything you need and is updated constantly.
