AANP Certfication Exam ( I failed it)

Nursing Students NP Students

Hello,

My name is Jamie and I have been an ER nurse for 7 years. I took the AANP exam yesterday April 3 and failed it. I am extremely sick to my stomach about this. How can I fail this exam? I was a 4.0 GPA student during my MSN/FNP program. I took Fitzgerald review update course 3 days long. I have her CDS and her review book. I have Hollier, many guideline books and so many quiz books as well. My weakness has always been test taking. I know the material. I have to say this exam I took yesterday was like NO OTHER! There were questions on the exam I have never seen before. I guessed on more than half of the questions. There was maybe a handful of questions I said WOW I know this one.

So I need help! Where do I begin now? I need 15 Ce's I guess and then I need to re take the test. Anybody who has failed this exam I would love to talk to you. Also anyone who has taken it and passed I would love to talk to you. I am just so depressed. The sad part is my job in the ER as an FNP has been waiting for me for months. I hope that they do not pass me by because of this.

I am just so depressed! I cant believe it... I studied so much that I have not spent much time with family or my friends. I was really looking forward to being me again.

Mickey4--How much longer until you test? Best of luck...Special prayers for you!

This is Mickey4. Thanks for all the support! I retook the exam yesterday evening and passed! Praise God!

If anyone has the answer to my question abt disclosing the first failure on the credentialing application, please let me know.

CONGRATS!!!! That is awesome...

I have taken the AANC and AANP certification exams. Most recently was yesterday. I took the Fitzgerald review as well as Hollier. I also used Leik review book. Does anyone have any suggestions that you can share with me. Each time I came close to passing, but close is not good enough. I do not know what else to do. Help.

What do you think made you not pass? Was it a content problem / lack of knowledge? Test taking anxiety? Etc etc?

I have always been a poor test taker. After the exam I went back and looked over my study material and I noted that when I did the process of elimination I chose the wrong answer after eliminating the 2 definite wrong choices. Also, can anyone give me suggestions on studying theory, cultural issues, and pratice & role. There was not much in Fitzgerald review. I am going to take the ANCC exam again as soon as I am cleared. Thanks for any suggestions. I want to get this behind me because I am soooooo exhausted.sad.png

Help... I just failed my aanp/fnp boards.... Seems to be a familiar post... I studied for months and went in very comfortable with the material... I am not a good test taker.... But more than half the questions I had... I had not seen or heard before and if I had...the answers were not what we have been taught!!!! And for some questions... I could get down to 2 choices and not from there!! This do depressing... frustrating...

Any suggestions?? I did holier review course and an additional test book of questions.. and it didn't help at all

I am sorry to hear that. It makes the two of us, I failed mine yesterday too. I am totally confused as to what to do now. I did the Fitzgerald prep book front to back, listened to her CD's more than 3 times. I am thinking of buying the Barkley review as i need 15 hour CE, another 400 dollars!!!!! any suggestions is appreciated please:cry:

wannapass 77 hung in there, this is just a road bump to make us stronger NPs even tho depressing

Specializes in FNP.

I wouldn't spend another $400 for more review material when you already have the best review material on the market and it didn't help. What I would to is spend $25 and take the practice test at the Fitzgerald website so you get a printout of your weak areas, then you know exactly what content areas you need to study intensely. Then do your CE in that area.

In addition, I would go back to my fundamentals. Study your physical assessment text, pharmacology, and go through your material from school by systems.

I saw that ANCC has a $25 general test taking strategies online course, maybe there is something like that that would be helpful too.

(Anyone take this from ANCC and find it helpful?)

I recently took the AANP certification exam three days ago and FAILED IT. I felt like I was kicked in the stomach. I also studied Fitzgerald, and Mometrix FNP study guides. I could not believe the test. There were more than half the questions that I had never seen and medications I had never heard of. I have been an RN for 20 years and after the test, I felt like I had studied for the wrong test. I am depressed and feel like I don't know what to do now. I will retake the exam, but my confidence level has really taken a blow. Any suggestions on how to move forward would be greatly appreciated.

I totally understand..the same thing happened to me. I felt like the test preperation material did not prepare me for the FNP exam. I seriously felt like I had studied for the wrong test. I have read through several posts and it seems like the Fitzgerald website has some study questions that may be helpful for 25 dollars. I am kind of in limbo now.
