AANP Certfication Exam ( I failed it)

Published

Hello,

My name is Jamie and I have been an ER nurse for 7 years. I took the AANP exam yesterday April 3 and failed it. I am extremely sick to my stomach about this. How can I fail this exam? I was a 4.0 GPA student during my MSN/FNP program. I took Fitzgerald review update course 3 days long. I have her CDS and her review book. I have Hollier, many guideline books and so many quiz books as well. My weakness has always been test taking. I know the material. I have to say this exam I took yesterday was like NO OTHER! There were questions on the exam I have never seen before. I guessed on more than half of the questions. There was maybe a handful of questions I said WOW I know this one.

So I need help! Where do I begin now? I need 15 Ce's I guess and then I need to re take the test. Anybody who has failed this exam I would love to talk to you. Also anyone who has taken it and passed I would love to talk to you. I am just so depressed. The sad part is my job in the ER as an FNP has been waiting for me for months. I hope that they do not pass me by because of this.

I am just so depressed! I cant believe it... I studied so much that I have not spent much time with family or my friends. I was really looking forward to being me again.

Hi Jamie

I just failed my aanp exam today and feel exactly as you just described. What did you do? Did you take the aanp exam again or did you take the ancc?

Thanks

Melanie

Failed Boards and finally Passed

Hi everyone,

I finished my DNP since 2018 and was struggling to pass my FNP boards. I finally did on 01/16/2021. I am currently actively on orientation as an Integrated Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient clinic. It was a long road with many bumps but it is allover now.

Let me summarize how I finally did it working full time at the same time.

-I secured Shaira Cohen's and Sarah Michelle's FNP reviews on Youtube and contacted them for the full reviews. I studied those everyday for eight weeks three hours daily.

-I also secured Mosby's FNP review online mostly for the tests

-I also bought APEA 2020 online review and went through it twice

-I read all of Leik's third edition exam tips and did all her 746 questions

-I did 700 questions from FNP mastery

With all this, I signed up for the ANCC test and only wrote on my dump sheet; "I will pass in Jesus' name" and took the test and passed.

If anyone is in my situation, do not give up. Check out these reviews I mentioned. You'll be glad you did.

Now I can proudly announce myself as DNP, FNP-BC, APRN

The problem IMHO with the boards is that they are not clinical enough. Questions about medications/diagnoses are important skills to test, and line up with our expected role as an NP.

The other 50% of questions are bizarre fluff about historical court cases and other non-science, non-medical topics. Those questions are somewhat embarassit at the provider level. Our boards should look similar to PA boards.
