You never here much from nurses in SC. Are there not that many on this board or have I just missed you all?

It would be nice to hear about experiences here in SC.

Perhaps we should introduce ourselves.

I am a student in Charleston, just moved here with my family to attend nursing school. We plan on staying here after I graduate instead of moving back to Myrtle Beach.

Hello everyone! I'm new here. I just discovered this forum by accident but it seems very helpful to me. Anyway,I am from the Phillipines. I just recently passed my NCLEX and will be working in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center soon. The hospital is located in Hartville SC. I just want to ask you guys how is like living in that area? Any info is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi to all, I'm hope to see this thread get larger. I'm a nursing student, live in Chester, SC but work in Rock Hill, SC since I'm just over the York/Chester County line. I work for an assisted living facility as a Resident Assistant/Med Tech and am going to York Tech in the Fall of 2006. I am taking the CNA class July 10 at York Tech and hope to find a higher paying job. Any suggestions, please let me know, even though the experience will be good for a resume and I'm already attached to so many of the residents there. There are some very nice people to work with in Rock Hill and they have made my recent move from Abbeville/Greenwood area so welcoming and have made the adjustment so easy. Any Rock Hill people please write me and I would love to hook up with some more nursing students at York Tech. Beth B

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I just graduated with my ADN two weeks ago. I am very excited and can not wait to take my NCLEX. I have a job on the Med/Surg floor at our community hospital. I hope to end up in the ER within the next year. That is my favorite place to be. I have worked as a Nurse Tech for the past 10 months and spent lots of time in the ER, in fact did my preceptorship for school in the ER.

I live in the beach area.

well NanaR.. i was born here and graduated high school here.. make A's and B's in ALL of my classes.. pre rec included and still dont qualify for help.. i do not have a student loan.. i refuse.. i saved my money while i was working to do this.. mainly because after high school there was no help then.. didnt figure it would change. .. in my experience, out-of-state students will recieve more benefits from any college in good ole SC than the native. last fall a fellow student recieved 4500 over and above her books and tuition for "transportation and child care" ... it absolutely un-nerved me!!! she put the money down on a car

I think it totally depends on the information that you submit with your FAFSA as to how much aid you'll receive. I would think that coming from out-of-state would be a HUGE disadvantage due to the nearly double tuition charged to out-of-state students.

There IS Lottery Funded Tuition Assistance for Junior and Tech schools here in SC...it's paying about 1/2 of my tuition, thanks to our lottery.

For whatever it's worth, I, too get above and beyond what is needed to simply pay tuition. I calculate according to my classes what time I'll be missing from work (I work full-time). I guesstimate how much books will cost. I keep enough from student loans to cover those two things after tuition is paid and decline the rest. Without it, I couldn't go to school.

hello,

I have been a long time reader of this web site but only joined a short while ago. I live in the big city of Goose Creek. I look forward to a long association with my fellow SC professionals. Have a great holiday.

This is untrue. I was born here, went to school here and through hard work and good grades I have a BSN and owed only 12000 after graduation. The 12,000 that I owe has allowed me to make about 5 times what I made working through school to supplement my scholarships and loans. The money IS there if you are willing to work hard enough for it. When I was a senior in highschool, I applied for EVERY scholarship the counselors office offered. When they had the awards ceremony in highschool, it was my name who was called the most often for scholarship recipients. Throughout school I worked HARD to keep my LIFE scholarship and continued to apply for scholaerships. I kept a good repoire with my professors and the dean and was active in the SNA. ALL of those things put living money in my pocket and the school tuition paid. The money is out there, you just have to be willing to work hard folr it and look hard for it.
