  1. $7.00 per hour without your lic. you will have 4 months to take the state test and become a CNA, at this point the pay is $7.50 per hour.
  2. Sorry ... i forgot to mention that we are both nursing students... go figure that one.
  3. I have just finished reading all this and absolutely do not doubt any of it. When I was orientating with my job, I was shocked. It was nothing like what I was taught was supposed to happen. When the "bad CNA's" figure out you are not going to do it their way, they turn on you, maybe out of fear of being found out or what ever.. and will set you up for some really bad nights. and yes ... they disappear. One girl i work with is going to school, just like me but works a little differently than i do. she pulls double shifts on thrusday, friday and saturday nights by working 2nd and 3rd. she makes her rounds twice. yes i said twice, thats per shift. any feeders that are bed ridden dont get fed 100% because she thinks they might throw up and make a mess.. its unreal!!! i had to orientate with her on second shift of my 5th day of work. i was already assigned to another girl but this girl was complaining to the lpn that she had a hard load and needed the help more that the other girl. the lpn never looked at the assigned residents just said ok.. go with her. it was awful. i took that list and went to see one of the residents on her list.. i changed this resident and got her up from her nap, into her w/c. as we were coming down the hall, this girl starts yelling at me that i wasnt supposed to get that resident up! she just didnt want her up... she snapped the wheelchair around and said she would put her back to bed. i asked if anyone else needed changing.. she said that i was so slow that she had already seen about everyone else!!! i was only in there... maybe 5 minutes... maybe... she had 9 residents assigned to her. ..(this was about 3:30 into a 3pm to 11pm shift... i had a very long night)
  4. Hello! I start the LPN program at PTC in January and will transition afterwards. I am still on the ADN wait list waiting and waiting and --you know kindof like dialup!! I just finished the CNA class. Its great. I learned so much and my instructor was WONDERFUL. after the class I asked if she would be one of my instructors in the program and she said she only taught the cna class:(.. about the rumors... I have heard them all. a few fellow students that have already graduated and 1 that failed out said that they were true. one girl in particular said to always try hard, show the instructors a whole lot of respect (more than usual) and you will not end up on the s**t list. and it does exist! I will certainly admit, Im scared but have gotten too far to switch schools mid-stream. I would end up on a waiting list a mile long. But... I am considering doing my "transition" somewhere else. I dont know if I can but am looking into it now so that if there is a wait list, I can get on it now and by the time I finish my LPN classes I will be able to go directly to my transition classes...
  5. in my cna class we were all told the same thing ... and also told but you will need one upon finishing this class. in other words we were welcome to use the schools supplies until we got our own. most of us already had our own since we were taught VS in A&P II and were told in there that we would need them later on. glad you are getting her one. she will love practising on all her friends! my family is a little bored with me knocking on the door ... introducing myself... telling them 'im washing my hands', and explaining what im about to do. it helps for later on. we have clinicals for the next 2 weeks at a local nursing home. cant wait
  6. I worked for a vet for 15 years. loved it but after my divorce was left with no insurance. I took a plunge, worked a summers notice and started school full time. I will finish my CNA class at the end of this month, Jan 2007 start the LPN program and in Fall 2007 transition to ADN. Cant wait!!
  7. I am on both waiting lists for LPN and ADN at my school. I am currently taking a CNA course. from what i have heard... my cna class is teaching what a lpn should do and the lpn career page reads like what a rn would be doing... so what are the differences or do they all overlap? what really caught my attention is that we are taught that a rn always gives medication .... in the lpn career link.... it says the lpn gives medication.
  8. well NanaR.. i was born here and graduated high school here.. make A's and B's in ALL of my classes.. pre rec included and still dont qualify for help.. i do not have a student loan.. i refuse.. i saved my money while i was working to do this.. mainly because after high school there was no help then.. didnt figure it would change. .. in my experience, out-of-state students will recieve more benefits from any college in good ole SC than the native. last fall a fellow student recieved 4500 over and above her books and tuition for "transportation and child care" ... it absolutely un-nerved me!!! she put the money down on a car
  9. Im a nursing student and am in the CNA class now. Our instructor advised us to go work as a CNA on our off time to get the experience. After researching the area... the average is $6 an hour! I was shocked! For what a CNA does in a day....how do they make ends meet? I think mcdonalds pays more and their employees are not exposed to blood, urine, etc... South Carolina needs to look into this matter and improve.
