Stop the Bleed

I did the training, but I feel like it was a little useless because I won't have access to a "professional" tourniquet if there ever was an emergency in the school or if I come across one in the community. And holding pressure on a wound is what I think is common sense (but I could be wrong given what gets sent in to my office sometimes).

But that being said, my principal still wants our emergency team trained so I am going to train them in the spring. I contacted the person who did the training I attended and she emailed me the powerpoint they used. I plan on using my CPR dummies to demonstrate holding pressure and packing wounds.

I took the class and have signed-up to be an instructor, if the opportunity ever arises. I took the class on my own, it was not offered through my district. My budget could never support buying the kits that they offer, so I went on eBay and purchased tourniquets for about $5.00 and put my own kits together. I have put a kit (minus the Qwikclot) in each of my AED boxes on campus. I could only afford two packages of Qwikclot, so I keep that in my GoKit.

I would like to train my staff, and have offered to present the class, but the Admin showed no interest in my offer.

Oh, it is unfortunate that you were not given a kit for each school. Our local community hospital received a grant to provide all of my schools with one kit each. My understanding is that the kits are around 70.00 each. I plan to start by training each nurse in each school but would also like to have a power point that could be included in the beginning of the year trainings that everyone completes.

You can sign-up on the website to be an instructor. Then you have access to all the PP and support material to provide the class.

i went to an active shooter type / trauma first aid type course at the backing and pushing of one of our police offices here in district. It was really good, really interesting, but looks like it was an expended 8 hour version of the stop the bleeding course with more survival skills.
