School Nurse Certification

I am currently a Registered Nurse with my BSN and will be beginning a new job as a school nurse this fall. I would eventually like to go back and get my certification in School Nursing. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on this?

I just got the book from the NASN website School Nurse Certification Review....without any review I went and did the practice tests and scored like 70% So I feel with some intensive review over the next 6 months or so I hope to sit the exam with in the year...have not decided if I will spend $75 for the practice test.... but I may just to be sure I am aware of what I need to brush up on.

I would like to do the same thing. From what I understand, in my state it is a 2-3 semester courseload, not just a test, so it is very time consuming and also expensive. I'm interested in hearing feedback from others who have done this as well...

There are several different routes to certification, might make a difference in different States as to what is required. I would check that out for sure, also if it makes a difference in salary.

The national certification, NBCSN.org is a certification exam. (Which I have taken) ( and passed!). The book mentioned above is a prep book for that exam. Then there is the university-sponsored certification--more costly and time consuming. Some States also require some other kind of school nurse credential, which I know nothing about since my State doesn't require anything beyond BSN. The national exam body recommends three years experience to take the exam. I studied several times a week for about three months as best as I can remember. I did the exam just to see if I could pass it, there was no financial incentive for me to do so.
