Nursing school really taught me the importance of critical thinking and assessment. I also learned the value of reading instructions and following directions. Hmmmmmmm........I guess teachers don't receive that info while in school. I am so tired of giving teachers detailed info and directions and having them either totally ignore or totally screw them up. Yet, I hear them complaining about their students doing the same thing.

Or.....let's waste 20 minutes of class time sending a student to the nurse for a safety pin when I have 47 floating in my drawer!!!

Vent over.........feel better!!

I hear you about following directions. I send email after email, put notes in boxes and verbally give directions at staff meetings regarding screening procedure. I think maybe 10% got it right last year. I know they have a lot going on, but seriously. It is a state law that kids get screened, not optional, and not something I do to make their lives difficult.

I had to collect information recently on whether or not teachers are up to date on their health lesson plans. I verbally told them about the deadline. I emailed them. I put the forms (which clearly state the deadline) in their box. I emailed AGAIN and told them that if I do not get a response by 3:00 on ___ day, it will be assumed that you are NOT up to date. Guess what? I still got a response three days later, and several never turned them in.

But let a kid be late turning in their homework and watch the fireworks!!!
