I'm LEAVING!

Dear teachers,

You get one lunch break, one planning period and one hour where your kids are at specials and you have the classroom to yourself. If you have a burning question, sob story, or anecdote to share please feel free to come to my office during one of those times to tell me. I love (most of) you and am happy to hear about your cat's untimely death, your grandma's non-healing diabetic ulcer or the dinner party you are planning. Honestly and sincerely.

Please note that on the list of the THREE daily free periods during which you are able to come talk to me, "right after the bell rings when I am wearing my coat and sunglasses and have my keys in my hand and are walking to the front door" is not included. I may not have the luxury of getting scheduled breaks like you do, but I do have the luxury of not having lessons to plan, tests to grade or parents to call. When that bell rings, I am (barring any significant incidents) gone. I'll be back tomorrow, sitting in the same freezing office all day, ready and willing to lend an ear to your various tales.

Just not. Right. Now.

Sincerely,

The crabbiest tomato there ever was

I am fortunate, we have all school lunch. I rarely get interrupted during lunch, they are too busy eating and socializing. Jersey, I can't get the picture of a grumpy Bob the Tomato from Veggie Tales out of my mind.

I love Bob the Tomato! Heck, I love tomatoes . . . they just have to be straight from the garden and not grocery store.

When I was still working as a school nurse, I would usually stay and help corral kids in the hallway who were supposed to be picked up by their parents by 3:10 p.m. and I didn't leave until 4:00 p.m.

I did eat my lunch with the teachers although K-3 had first lunch, 4-6 had second lunch. So, it just depended on which group of teachers I wanted to sit down and have lunch with . . .

I'm sorry but are you that floppy of a person that you can't say "I'm heading home." (Wo)man up and let your friends know you want to leave on time.

I hear ya! Society in General is getting more and more demanding if our patience. BTW- love the pic- I m a huge Boss fan, miss Clarence. Listen to some good Springsteen to try to relax a bit. Helps me for a little breather. Good luck. Been a nurse 35 years, so know what ur saying!

I wouldn't describe myself as "floppy" but then again I am a human being and not a ragdoll. I am also not the type of person to interrupt someone when they are telling me an emotional or upsetting story to say "I want to go home" because I think that's a little callous.

I appreciate that my coworkers feel comfortable confiding in me and I am happy to listen, I just wish they chose times that were more convenient because I know they have them built into their days.
