Christmas gifts for med kids

Some of the nurses in our district buy their regular med/diabetic kids a small gift at Christmas time-nothing fancy. Do you all do that? I've thought it would be a nice gesture but I'm not sure what to buy since we aren't allowed to do candy. I thought of pencils/stickers or things like that but then I thought well maybe they get a bunch of that already from their teachers. What are your thoughts on this?

i thought about that too... part of me doesn't want to set a precedent but they are really great kids and I'd like to reward them for being really compliant and polite. My kids are middle schoolers - so stickers or pencils may be viewed as too "babyish"

Teachers/ staff are not allowed to give students gifts under *any* circumstances in my district. I guess it's policy so no one plays 'favorites' or get accused of worse things later.

That's my primary concern - i've never done gifts before, save for birthday pencils at the Kindergarten school and while i'd like to reward my diabetics and kids on daily meds for being diligent i don't want to open a pandora's box.

I would feel like I was playing favorites. There are lots of great kids here, some that I have daily contact with and lots that I don't. I would feel terrible giving gifts to some and not others. I do give out stickers and stamps regularly, so they are just going to have to settle for that :)

Honestly, I give out Toothbrushes as birthday presents...if they come to see me on their birthday! I may let the med kids pick out a toothbrush too! (I only have 2 so no big deal!)

Wow-I never thought about all those other issues. I think you're right-it's just best not to. I could see that getting out of hand or someone complaining. I was kind of suprised when the other nurses did it but I think it's probably best not to. Thanks for your replies!
