New England Tech in Warwick, RI

U.S.A. Rhode Island

I was wondering if anyone had any information about this school. Their program is fairly new and not accredited as of yet. So, im kinda skeptical about this program. It would be nice if someone could respond to this that is in the program.

Hey, I am looking into this school and I am wondering, to those who have been accepted, what was your GPA at the time of being accepted? Also, did they take your transfer credits?

GPA doesnt matter. You pay a fee of $175 to take an accuplacer test and if you pass that then you take the kaplan nurisng exam. They accept the top 25 scores on the kaplan. And yes they do take some of transfer courses depending on the course and how old it is.

ok thank you. if you don't mind me asking, what was your score? and is the test basically math english etc?

Compared to a state-supported institutions, such as CCRI, RIC and URI, tuitions at independent institutions such as New England Tech, which receive no funding from the State of Rhode Island, are always going to be higher. Fortunately, New England Tech has the lowest tuition of any independent college in RI. As a matter of fact, its tuition is lower than what students who are not residents of Rhode Island pay at the University of Rhode Island.

Right, but there is a difference in the education/degree you're getting. I'm definitely not trying to board the ADN/BSN debate train here, but, if you're an RI resident I would seriously consider taking advantage of the

in-state tuition at the public schools. That way you'd spend less and have the 4 year degree. My entire BSN at RIC is costing me about $22,000 (I'm graduating in May). Just some food for thought....good luck in your nursing journey! :nurse:

Edited to add -- the reason I'm talking cost here is due to the fact that vast numbers of nursing grads are not landing jobs, even a year out of school. Having to pay back loans of that caliber with a chance of not getting a job is a scary thought (one of the reasons I went with public school and not private).

there are tons of options to pay for nursing school. Also, there are many companies in RI that will reimburse you for some or all of your education. I am a student at NEIT, and I am very proud of what I have accomplished so far there.

I am a nursing student currently at NEIT, and the way this program is running so far is phenomenal. Anyone who doesn't want to wait on a list for years should definitely consider it. Being in RI, you have the opportunity to get money to pay for nursing school, and when you get hired, many companies will reimburse you for some/all of your nursing school costs. The director of the nursing program is by far the most knowledgable person I know in the nursing field, just being in a classroom with her you feel like you can accomplish anything. Also, the whole nursing dept. staff so far treats all students with individual attention and support. These women work practically 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That is rare and I am grateful for the opportunity to be educated here. Accredited yet? no...but we are all confident we will pass the boards and we have support from kaplan university to help us since day 1. I can definitely say on behalf of myself and my fellow nursing student classmates, we are very happy with our decision.

I will be starting the Nursing program at NEIT in July 2010, 3 more weeks! I have to say I can't wait! Yes, it is an expensive education but it is a state of the art program that I am hopeful will change nursing programs in RI all together. I absolutely cannot wait to start, I like hearing from those of you who are already in the program and are loving it! So far my experience with NEIT has been nothing but wonderful. Everyone in admissions have been extremely helpful and supportive. I am a 27 year old married mommy of a 2 year old boy, I will be working full time at least during my first 1-2 quarters, I didn't think I could swing going back to school but Keri in admissions was WONDERFUL and really made me feel empowered to FINALLY go to get my RN which is what I have to desperately wanted to do! I look forward to beginning my adventure to my RN, hope to hear from more students that will be starting in July also!:yeah:

I know you have to get top 25 on the Kaplan, but what is the score you need for the accuplacer?

congrats on getting in!! im going into my second quarter of the neit program (standard track)and i love it. The professors really want to see you succeed and are very helpful. just as a heads up i worked about 25 hours a week during frist quarter and it was tough. you need to dedicate ALOT of time to studying and reviewing material. The information most get during a semester we get in ten weeks lol. There are many working mothers in my class and they did great!....good luck and see you in july! :)

I know you have to get top 25 on the Kaplan, but what is the score you need for the accuplacer?

on the accuplacer::

Reading - 80 or higher

Writing - 22 or higher

Arithmetic - 62 or higher

Algebra - 61 or higher

i recently just took the kaplan and scored a 74 and was happy to find out my seat is now reserved for october :D

I was thinking about applying to this program over CCRI. Could you give me any information as far as what your normal class schedule is? I'm trying to figure out if it would work with my work schedule. Also do you know where your clinical will be? Any other information that you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Normal class schedule are around 3-4 days per week. I personally don't think that working too many hours during school is a good idea. There is so much to learn and you will be tired, but it is ultimitely up to you. Clinicals are at many facilities around RI, and we are working with almost everyone RIC and CCRI, and URI works with. It is definitely worth looking into as another option. I am so happy, and there is so much individual attention paid to each and every student, especially when you need extra help learning dosage and calculations or any other topic.

I agree with you about trying to avoid working alot but unfortunately that is not an option for me. I do think this program is a great opportunity. What can you tell me about the entrance exam? did you use anything other than the Kaplan book to study? Did you feel as if the test was what you expected and you were well prepared? What kind of questions were on the test? Thanks for your help.
