ADN or BSN and NICU

U.S.A. Rhode Island

Hi! I currently live on the Ma/Ri state line and I would like to go back to school for nursing within the next two years.

Thing is I will have to work fulltime through school, meaning my schedule will allow me to go to school only evenings and weekends. Which is fine. I'd like to go for my BSN out of the gate everyone tells me that's the way to go, but I don't think there are any evening/weekend BSN programs in the area. Are there?

My plan is do go ADN and complete BSN on line after. Given the choice which ADN program would choose? I'm considering CCRI, NEIT, and BCC health. Also, and I'm getting ahead of myself here, but do the area hospitals hire ADN NICU new grads? Thanks so much!

CCRI offers the night/weekend option. URI, RIC, and Salve Regina are the ones that offer the BSN, but none at night/weekend. And the 3 year nursing diploma from St. Josph School of Nursing, is also available only durring days. Sorry don't know about NEIT other than, thats a lot of money.....

Also, you can only get accepted to the weekend/night option at CCRI durring the fall semester. And only the Lincoln and Newport campus offer the night/weekend option.

Thank you so much for the response. Looks like CCRI is my only option. Are you a practicing nurse in the area?

CCRI at night.. and definitely wouldn't bank on being able to get into a NICU without experience and/or BSN...

I am currently a nursing student at neit and although it is expensive the school is amazing and our simulation lab is to die for. There is an RN to Ben online program to at neit that I plan on doing when I'm done with my associates.

I'm starting The nursing program at NEIT in Oct 2013. I'm so glad to hear such a good response from someone that is actually a student there! What a relief lol

BCC has a new EHealth program, where your lectures are online, so you only have to go to campus for tests and then clinicals are with the traditional students. The tests have to be done at the New Bedford campus I think though, other than that they only have a traditional day program, they don't offer a night/weekend program. Good luck!

Hi SNKyla, I am very interested in the nursing program at new England tech, if you could give me any information such as the entrance testing and ect that would be great! thank you!

first you take a basic placement test and if you pass that then you move on to take the kaplan entrance exam. you need a 74 to pass and get automatically excepted into the program. my first time taking it i got a 71 so i had to retake it and i got in. the school is so amazing and i honestly love it and i always tell people to look into NEIT if they want to go to nursing school. the professors are so nice and they truly want you to pass so they go out of their way to help you. also they have great student services and FREE tutors there and they encourage you to take full advantage of them considering you are paying a good amount of money to go to NEIT. i think youll love it as everyone who goes there says s=nothing but good things about it! they also have an RN to BSN program that ill be taking as well and im hoping they make a bsn to msn program before i graduate so i can just continue on going there!

good luck!

Hi, , I've been checking all your postings about NEw England Tech, I Went there to check the school, and you're right...the Nursing lab is to die for! I wanted to start right away...if I could after seeing that place. but after talking to the admission officer, and told me about the cost, which is $57,000 not included uniforms and books, I guess...I have to think again whether I'll pursue it there or not. I'm already an LPN and wanted to go back to school for my RN, I need help...do you think $57,000 is worth the cost for getting an Associate degree? How long Do I have to wait if I apply in a Community College like CCRI?

okay so here is my thoughts on the whole thing......

the school is definitely expensive and it is by far the most expensive associates degree i have ever heard of. If your looking to save money then go with CCRI.. ince your an LPN im assuming that you already have all your pre-reqs done so you would just need the nursing classes. I have never been to CCRI and havent heard much about their program (if they have a sim lab, clinical sites, course load, etc) so i cant tell you if its worth going their to save money or not. I can however speak about NEIT.... like i said it is really expensive for example i pay around 6k every quarter and i dont get any financial aid or anything. NEIT gives you tons of help if you need it and they allow you to use the sim lab whenever you want and actually encourage you to come.

I guess its a hard decision to make but if your worried about the money then probably choose CCRI but i really have nothing bad to say about the program at NEIT

go to ccri you already an LPN so just go and find out what you need to do to get in to finish you RN. Good Luck
