What is the best route for me?

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

Hi, so far I have taken about 60 college credit hours at a Community College and meet the requirements for entry into BSN and ADN programs. I am trying to decide if it so happens that I am accepted into both programs (as I am applying to both for this fall) which would be a better option for me. I have already completed two years of school and I feel like I will just be prolonging my stay if I get the ADN (which takes two years here in my state) and then try and go for a BSN. Also, I am trying to consider cost effectiveness here and which one will allow me the most flexibility in terms of time as I also work 20-30 hours a week. Any suggestions from anyone?

Thanks,

If you go for the ASN and then find employment as an RN, your employer might pay for part or all of your ASN-BSN tuition.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line...in other words, you'll be done sooner if you complete the BSN degree and bypass the ADN program. However, the ADN program is typically more cost-effective.

Life sometimes gets in the way of our plans to return to school. I completed an LVN program in '05, ADN program in '10, online BSN in '15, and am currently enrolled in an online MSN program. The lure of earning money in the here and now can be tempting, so school often gets placed on the back burner.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
