80% BSN by 2020??

From what i hear there is this goal of 80% BSN by 2020....me and my 4 friends were having this discussion and they feel this is an unrealistic goal for most areas of the U.S. i objected and explained to them with the way the job market is now for nurses, i think it is in a way forcing nurses to return back to shool to obtain a BSN. Because so many hospitals in many different regions are obtaining the Magnet Status. There are alot of online nursing schools that makes it more accesible to the already working nurses. My question is does anyone think this is possible besides me? And will there be a mass exit of the "baby boomer" nurses anytime soon?

I think it will fall short of the mark; mostly because of the eventual retiring of our most seasoned nurses; it could be probable if for-profits schools would close and the ADN programs were renamed BSN programs, then it would be probable.

I'm in the Texas Medical center, where this is a very realistic goal- in fact more hospitals have almost all BSN nurses.

Its very realistic. One can complete an RN-BSN in 1 year. I also don't think ASN and Diploma nursing is going away. In NYC even home care is saying BSN preferred.
