Did you have a good shift lately? Tell us about it!

What makes you happy at work?

What makes the hard work worth it?

Great Idea for a Thread, greenbeanio!

Here's a copy of a Post I made last July:

Right now, I am giving a Prayer of Thanks to God Almighty for my Great Co-Workers who have made the past Two Nights not Merely Bearable, but Transcendent!

Yelling, Falling, Head Banging, Hypoxic, Bleeding, Urine Soaked, Poopy, Confused, Delusional, Agitated, Verbally and Physically Aggressive Treatment Non-Compliant Psychotic Geriatric Patients could not deter these Team Members from Providing Exceptional Care!

MD, House Supervisor, Respiratory Threapist, RN, LPN, Techs, Security Guards, even though not Specifically Named, on MY All-Time Top List of People I want to Nominate (when they Die) to go to Heaven!

Amen!

OMG - that's a GOOD shift?! LOL!

But yes, good co-workers make such a difference!

No admissions.

The best staff.

Every patient was well behaved and presented no problems.

Not a glitch.

Everything was stocked, cleaned and ohhh... did those patients really get a lot of attention!

Then everyone went to bed... and stayed there.

We laughed and talked as we charted... many jokes and interesting stories were told.

I almost didn't want to go home.

Haven't had a shift like that since.

It was dreamy :inlove:

WOW fully charged and HOLDING it's charge.

Dinamap charged and has a pulse ox.

All of the meds I need are stocked in the room closest to my patient rooms.

More than 1 CNA.

Patients "due" for a PRN received it per night shift before report and thus won't need it again until around morning meds.

Having patients that don't need a bed alarm.

Confused patients have a safety sitter.

IVs working at shift change.

IV bags full at shift change.

Patient's ice buckets filled up and have cups/straws.

Patients have TEDs/SCDs ON them.

Nice quiet visitors who bring their own refreshments and sometimes treats for the staff.

Some other little things that just provoke that "ahhh... perfect" feeling:

- diabetics with controlled BG not requiring SSI

- PRN pain med doses that don't require hunting down a coworker for a waste witness

- having no 730 accuchecks

- having no patients with loads of skin issues

Hygiene Queen - dreamy indeed! I love shifts when I feel like the patients got the attention they need and deserve!

JustKeepSmiling - Seems like most of the things you list are things you really should be able to take for granted, but I'm guessing you usually have to do them yourself? I'm curious - you do IVs on a psych unit?

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but we do IV's.

I have WAY more good days than bad days at worK. One of the best days was when I made up my own group and it was one of the best groups ever. Even the girls from multiple other facilities commented on how great it was.

Then I stopped a major fight on the unit with my funky socks.

One of the girls told me that they remembered something I had said to them several months prior and it really helped them and kept them from self harming.

It's days like this that reminds me why I go to work

Not sure I understand?

I don't work psych - I do medsurg

Oh, now I get it. I had posted this in the Psych Nursing forum so I assumed you were on a psych unit.

Love it! What was the group about? And I MUST know how you stopped a fight with your funky socks! :D
