Work Related Experience?

Due to my lack of foresight when I was picking and choosing prerequisites in college, I am stuck having to take only A&P I & II over the next fall and spring semester. I figured this next year would be a good start in getting work related experience while taking those two classes. What I plan to do is take time over the summer to earn some sort of certification in something in the allied health field, but what exactly would you recommend or is there a certain certificate based job that interested you while you were getting experience for school?

The nursing school I've applied to requires a CNA cert. It's a 4-6 week class with about 40 hrs classroom time and about 40 hrs clinical time. A few of the local nursing homes provide the classes almost free and the local hospital charges about $1000 for the class. They do cover the fee if you are hired there. It's a good way to get an understanding of basic patient care and safety. Some people also like phlebotomy. Not sure how long it takes to become certified but you get to train on real people.

Some people go for EMT-B. A lot of people just do the CNA stuff.

My school requires STNA before you can get on the waitlist. I'm going to become a PCA after becoming an STNA because where I live STNA's only work in LTC facility and I want to work in a hospital, so I have to become a PCA.

You could also look into being trained as a CNA through the Red Cross. The chapter closest to me charges almost half of what my community college charges. And they offer a 6 week class, which is faster than my school offers, too.
