What do you think high school students should know about nursing?

Hi everybody,

as I am preparing a presentation to high school students about nursing I was wondering what other nurses think is important to convey.

My usual is to talk about what nursing means nowadays, why people choose nursing, how to become a nurse and the different paths (LPN, ADN, BSN, diploma), what it means to have an advanced nursing role. I include the differences between NP/PA/ physicians and talk about the different specialties /areas that nurses work in and trends in nursing.

I have talked in the past about the problems that new grads face in areas that are saturated with nurses and popular and talked about the common problems that nurses encounter as new graduates and why nurses leave the profession.

There is a little bit about what nursing schools look for in an applicant.

Last time I also talked about resilience and the need to deal with uncertainty and constant change as a nurse.

Do you have anything that you feel is very important to convey to high school students who are interested in nursing ?
