UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey guys, just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON hopefuls who are applying for Spring 2016. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin to play what seems to be the longest waiting game ever! I am more than confident that each and every one of us will be receiving our acceptance letters around this same time next year:) Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

I am planning on applying to UTMB also because I go to Sam Houston and they require the TEAS and I don't know who offers the HESI in my area.

@tamron, here is the link to find a testing center nearest to you if you need it! Hopefully they have something fairly close to you.

I believe you select RN admission assessment w/ critical thinking version 1 in the drop down bar. However, I may be mistaken.

Hi, I am also hoping to apply for spring of 2016! How is all of your pre reqs like and have you all taken the hesi or have any other words of advice?

Best of luck to everyone! (:

Hi @daimorales,

I haven't taken my HESI yet.. I am waiting until around May to take it so that I can be done with A&P II. I have completed most of my pre-reqs just missing Stats, A&P II, and Nutrition which I am taking next semester and then Microbio next fall. Right now the toughest class for me is definitely A&P I have my last test today, praying for an A. Based on reading previous semester threads, you definitely want to be on top of and send in all of your stuff early. They have a checklist on their website that seems pretty helpful. Also check out the study guide for the HESI exam and some of the quizlet sites. Good luck to you!!

Have any of y'all taken the "elective science" course and if so, what did y'all take?

The elective science course is only for UTMB in galveston

As a Health Science center, The School of Nursing does not offer general education courses. Therefore all students admitted, must satisfy the course prerequisite requirements. These courses provide a foundation for the learning that students receive at UTHealth. A student is eligible for admission consideration if at least 40 prerequisite credit hours; 8 of which are in Anatomy Physiology, Chemistry, and Microbiology have been completed. The prerequisites are as follows:

Wow, I am excited to see that this thread has been started. I too am a UTHSC Spring 2016 hopeful. I have not taken the HESI but I am currently studying to take it as soon as possible. I have a big semester in front of me and I want to make sure I have all of my time to focus on it. As of right now I have a 4.0 cum/4.0 science (I have completely busted my butt to get while working full time, married, and three daughters). I have completed all math and science courses except for Chemistry which I am starting in a few weeks :( I am 32 years old and just decided to try my hand at college during the summer. I am hoping that the speed at which I am getting this done on top of having a 4.0 will be to my advantage when applying to an accelerated program. Hopefully it will show that I can hunker down and get it done....hopefully! I am completing my pre-req at LoneStar. I will have 49 hours completed by July +/-7th, possibly 52 hours if my grades are updated quickly following second summer semester. I am absolutely letting this eat me alive already. I do not plan to put all of my eggs in one basket; I plan to apply to UTHSC-H, TWU, UTMB, Sam Houston, and PV. I am going to hold out for UTHSC probably until the day classes start :) I know that my grades are the best that they can possibly be but as most of us have read, IT DOESN'T ALWAYS MATTER!

My plan is to try to apply early, get everything over there so that they can already start processing it. Since I will have the required 40 hours following this semester at least all of those will be present and accounted for :) Then after summer I I can send the updated transcript, Right?

I am all over the place ! I'm scared ! I hope that I test well on HESI day :/

My Spring semester :

Chemistry-4 hours (scared to DEATH!)

College Algebra (tested out of math but it is a co-requisite BOOO) - 3 hours (spring mini-mester)

Comp II - 3 hours

US History II - 3 hours

Texas Govt. - 3 hours

Nutrition - 3 hours (VERY excited about my professor)

@jketron05, Wow! You are so inspiring balancing all that and still maintaining such a great scholastic record. Yes, after speaking with other students who currently attend UTH the best advice I have heard was too stay on top of all your records and to have everything sent in as early as possible. As for the HESI I have heard that there are various flashcards that have proven to be beneficial on quizlet.com and also the Elsevier Study Book! It is all happening so fast and can be quite overwhelming, my poor boyfriend has to deal with my all of my nerves and anxiety involved in this whole application process. Not sure which Chemistry you are taking but I just took the Intro to Chem. course this semester and it was not bad at all!! Although I had a great professor. I was really nervous at first but was pleasantly surprised. Relax, it will all be over before you know it. All of your hard work will have paid off and your acceptance letters will be rolling in!

I really hope so. I did test out of Intro to Chem and am going straight to Chem I. I wasn't sure if Intro to Chem would be ok with all colleges ???? Do you know?

@jketron, I know that for UTHSC Intro to Chem. satisfies the Chemistry requirement for some schools. I know that for my school we have the choice of taking Intro. or regular Chem.

Here is the transfer Pdf link for UTHSC. It looks like for lonestar you have the option of choosing between two different Chemistry courses.

https://nursing.uth.edu/prospstudent/applresources/documents/prereqtransferbsn.pdf

But, I am not sure if the other schools you are applying to allow Intro. to Chem. to satisfy the requirement. I too am applying to UTMB so I probably need to check into that also.

I'm taking the HESI March 17th @1pm :( I'm so nervous. I met with my advisor this week and he has assured me I'm doing everything right as of now. I did drop the Chem I and decided on Intro to Chem instead after meeting with him.

Awesome, good luck!! I think I will take my TEAS V first for UTMB since their deadline is about 2 months earlier and then HESI. Anxious to hear about how it went!!
