Unreasonable professor

This is my 3rd semester in college. I've taken English Composition 1 and 2 and made As on both of them without a problem. The professor was really picky but not unreasonable and she explained everything clearly. I'm having to take Human Communications 1100 this semester. They say to take it all you need to know is how to read. My counselor and everyone else told me it would be very easy. But the professor seems to be trying to make it hard. He gave me (what I consider) a bad grade for "Writing yeah instead of yes, writing 3 periods (That was on purpose for my speech), writing vs., and for two sentence fragments". The class average is 57% so I know it's not just me (I have a 89--which I suppose is good for his class but is ridicules for how easy it's suppose to be).

Leaving out the bad grades he is of next to no help when you ask him for advice. He is always boasting about his achievements. (He was awarded some hero for 2016--in a town with 4800 people and started an orchestra in that town, is an ordained reverend of music and teaches 3 or 4 different classes). I thought I'd give him a chance but when is it not to soon to tell the dean? I don't want to make a big deal out of nothing but this is my grade and how can I do better if he won't help?

Sorry I'm really ticked at him right now. Should I wait it out a little longer? I realize there are areas I needed to improve on my essay (I don't think he even cared about my speech) but I can't improve unless he gives me good feedback and stops boasting about what he has done.

What was the grade?

I can tell you right now that I'd get docked points for those things you've mentioned in any/all of my classes. It's a communication class, so those little mistakes are important. My speech teacher was really tough and didn't offer much in the way of guidance either. I had to learn how to handle her and do the things her way to earn that A.

I don't see anything worth going to the dean over, but maybe there's something I'm missing.

What exactly is your complaint? You were marked down for valid grammatical mistakes. I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but this post comes across as very entitled. You are in college now. There is very little hand holding, and you are held accountable for your work. This is not something that you go to the dean over, and if you do, you will not be taken seriously. You have an 89% and it sounds like that is the grade that you have earned. He shouldn't have to help you with basic grammar and spelling.

And, I can tell you right now, all your courses from here on out will require proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, citation, etc. And if you struggle with it, your instructors aren't going to help you. That's what language and composition courses are for. When you are in advanced courses, you are expected to already have that knowledge under your belt and be able to apply it. And, yes, you will get marked down for those types of errors, even in your nursing classes.

If you are offended by an instructor insisting on correct grammar and punctuation, moving into a much more formal APA-style writing (required for nursing papers) will be an ordeal.

Nursing education is a cumulative, integrated curriculum. This means that progress will depend upon your ability to apply what you have learned in previous courses. It's never 'one and done'. For example, information from those cushy courses like like sociology and growth and development will be expected to show up (with appropriate attribution) in future papers - grammar, syntax and punctuation are so basic that these errors won't even be open for discussion.

Ok...I'm sorry some of y'all misunderstood me. This professor is one of the worst possible to get and every hates taking him, but he's the only one for Human Communication. I'm sorry my first post sounded terrible but I was really fed up with some things he's been saying. I'm not so much upset about this one grade--I did have mistakes and a teacher is suppose to grade work. But this professor doesn't teach and most of the class is failing.
