Trying to become a nurse..

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So I posted on a forum before with a somewhat education plan, but turns out that won't work out. :sniff:

So a couple of questions:

Can you transfer nursing courses to an out of state college? For example - I did a year of nursing school in Washington and transferred to Texas to start my second year.

Reason: My husband is in the military and we are moving back to Texas in 2018. There is not a way to finish the nursing program in Washington by 2018. So the timeline would be 2017-2019 which unfortunately is not an option for us since we will be moving back home to our families.

These are my options-

Option 1: Take prereqs from 2015-2017, wait a year, move home, then apply to nursing school in TX for 2018

Option 2: Wait until 2016 to start prereqs and finish in 2018 so that I have fresh knowledge in my head and I don't have an idle year. Then move home and apply to 2018 nursing school in TX.

Option Probably Impossible: Transfer from the middle of the WA nursing program to the middle of the TX one and finish that way.

Problems with Option 1: I am afraid if I wait a year after my prereqs to go to nursing school, I will forget all the stuff or maybe those classes will be no good after a year.

Problems with Option 2: I also don't want to wait another year to start school. I feel as if starting prereqs now will give me opportunity to get better grades, make sure I have the right prereqs for TX, etc.

Problems with Probably Impossible Option: None. Money maybe? School's expensive either way. :sarcastic:

If you're confused reading this, don't worry, I am too. I don't know what to do. I know that I have to be patient, but I don't want to waste any time, ya' know? I also don't want my husband supporting me until 2020, I want to be able to give back to him.

Ugh, don't know what to do or think, my brain is fried. Thanks in advance for any responses, though. You guys give me hope that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

The thing is in Texas you're going to have to take extra classes, they require Texas history and maybe some other classes that Washington may not. You would have to make sure your classes will all transfer so you're not spending even more money. I think doing the pre-reqs like math, English, sociology, psychology, things that are pretty much the same across the board then waiting to do the rest and apply to the program in Texas would be best.

Good luck.

I would start taking your pre-reqs & get into nursing school ASAP. If that means you have to go to nursing school in Washington then you do it. But at least you will be done with school & all you have to do is apply for jobs in Texas & transfer your license. And like the PP said Texas schools require Texas history classes, I don't know if Washington does.

Have you thought of doing option 1 and applying to a one year LPN program in Washington, taking the nclex-on in Washington and then endorsing here to Texas when you move? You could then apply to bridge programs and you won't be having to wait a year either.

I haven't thought about that.. That sounds like a good option. Thank you, I will look into it.

Right, and I would try to take any extra classes online or beforehand :) I understand though what you're saying, I will definitely be careful about it.

Thanks for the input!!

I plan to take my pre requisites it's actually a year wait here for possible candidates to get in program's doubt you loose any info, enrollment date January program starts in the Fall. I think most science and math classes be transferable to any CC college. I plan to transfer to another program in another state. Can always call a school in Texas as well.

Also Texas has a flexible LPN to BSN bridge programs if you can complete a 16 month LPN program do it.

The LPN then bridge option sounds good.

1 more option. Since pre reqs don't have a clinical component, see if the school in TX has an online program. You could do your pre reqs online while still in WA at the same school you would be going to nursing school. Then when you move it will be almost seamless.

Yes you could do all except the science courses. Probably have to pay a little extra for non-resident tuition is all. The easy transition might be worth it.

You are considered active duty military as a dependent. You will not have to pay out of state tuition if you take online classes. A law was passed.
