So I posted on a forum before with a somewhat education plan, but turns out that won't work out.
So a couple of questions:
Can you transfer nursing courses to an out of state college? For example - I did a year of nursing school in Washington and transferred to Texas to start my second year.
Reason: My husband is in the military and we are moving back to Texas in 2018. There is not a way to finish the nursing program in Washington by 2018. So the timeline would be 2017-2019 which unfortunately is not an option for us since we will be moving back home to our families.
These are my options-
Option 1: Take prereqs from 2015-2017, wait a year, move home, then apply to nursing school in TX for 2018
Option 2: Wait until 2016 to start prereqs and finish in 2018 so that I have fresh knowledge in my head and I don't have an idle year. Then move home and apply to 2018 nursing school in TX.
Option Probably Impossible: Transfer from the middle of the WA nursing program to the middle of the TX one and finish that way.
Problems with Option 1: I am afraid if I wait a year after my prereqs to go to nursing school, I will forget all the stuff or maybe those classes will be no good after a year.
Problems with Option 2: I also don't want to wait another year to start school. I feel as if starting prereqs now will give me opportunity to get better grades, make sure I have the right prereqs for TX, etc.
Problems with Probably Impossible Option: None. Money maybe? School's expensive either way.
If you're confused reading this, don't worry, I am too. I don't know what to do. I know that I have to be patient, but I don't want to waste any time, ya' know? I also don't want my husband supporting me until 2020, I want to be able to give back to him.
Ugh, don't know what to do or think, my brain is fried. Thanks in advance for any responses, though. You guys give me hope that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
You cannot transfer in the middle of a program. Each school is different and take their classes in a different order. So transferring in the middle won't work. You would most likely have to start all over again in Texas so it would be a waste of money. I would either become a LPN in WA and see if that license will transfer to Texas or I would get my prereqs done in WA provided they transfer, then apply in Texas. I would take the history prereq in Texas when I moved there then apply to the program. You want to be a resident of the state before applying to a program so you can get instate tuition. Normally, that takes 6 mos, so you could get the history prereq out of the way in the meantime. Otherwise, just wait until you move to Texas.
I am not sure if you're wanting to do ASN or BSN but I do know that our science classes are good for 5 years here in Texas. Also I was looking into getting my BSN after I finish my LVN school, and I didn't see anywhere that you have to take Texas history, but US history.
You don't have to take Texas History for your ASN but for your BSN you do.

That's actually quite a good idea. But completion of pre-requisites is a completely separate 'thing' than admission to the school's nursing program. Even if you complete all pre-reqs at XYZ college, you'd still have to apply for their nursing program. Some programs may give first consideration to their school's existing students, but this is not weighted more heavily than GPA & admission test scores.
Nursing courses DO NOT transfer between programs unless they have a prior, 'education progression' type of arrangement.. e.g., LVN grads at St. Fabulous are automatically given credit for Nursing 101 at Humongous University BSN program.
Admission to nursing programs in Tx is very competitive. The level of difficulty is always inversely correlated with the program cost - LOL. At any rate, OP shouldn't count too heavily on getting into a nursing program right away unless she's prepared to pay out the wazoo at a commercial school.
